Is there any possibility of restoring the lost data?

Going out on a limb, I don't think the data is lost. I think the message tracker is not retreaving any messages which have been already read. I had a couple pages of messages that I had skipped, when I clicked on those pages I could read the those messages, but only those messages.
For the admins it was in the 13-17 page range.

Im pretty sure this forum is run off of some sort of SQL Database, probably MySQL. In which case the garbage data may be due to overflow.
I would say that there would most likely be a backup. That is if they had that feture enabled...
Let us hope

Data recovery
If you have been following the topic, and you haven't since opened the damaged pages, you may very well have good topic pages stored in your disk cache. I know I've recovered some damaged pages in the past this way.
What you need to do is be off-line. Then try to load the page(s). See what you get.
It might be usefull to Percy if you could recover pages and save them.
I'll now see what I have in my cache. Unfortunately (or perhaps sanely), I hadn't been following the topic very closely.

Buzzsaw is suggesting that it may be the work of a hacker keen to cover the thrashing that the creationists were handing out.

Re: Data recovery
More than likely it has to do with timing out while loading 58 pages of information. That was the old issue, back when we had to close threads when they reached 300 posts (20 pages)

The Google caches
Message 725 of 725 08-03-2004 03:37 AM is the last that Google has stored.
To see this and earlier, go to Google, enter the full page address in their search box, and then hit enter.
Clicking on the supplied find will get you to the damaged page. Clicking on the Google Cache button will get you to their cached version.
Have fun,

That sounds reasonable, though, Willowtrees Proof Of God thread also is very long. Thanks.
