Those involved in debate here will frequently see references to 'standard phrases' which to make up some of the currency of debate technique: straw man, self-contradiction, begging the question etc. The link below might prove useful for those (like me) who, due to inexperience aren't quite clear about what these terms mean. Although the medium used takes a critical look at the sayings of a certain Richard Dawkins (known as the British medias 'Atheist in Waiting') my intention is not to criticique evolution (which Mr. Dawkins strenuously defends ). This link is offered because it gives a detailed examination by way of exaple, of the workings of commonly used debate-phrases. I hope it will prove useful for all standpoints Dawkins and the Public Understanding of Scientism - bethinking.org This message has been edited by iano, 14-Feb-2006 12:12 AM

Where are the logical fallacies definitions?
A short browse didn't bring them up. I suggest this site is a better, more direct source for them. Fallacies - Nizkor

Re: Where are the logical fallacies definitions?
The link seems to work ok this side of the pond but a less biased version as you supply is probably a better option considering the...er.... spirit.... of the intent

Re: Where are the logical fallacies definitions?
The link worked, the list of fallacies wasn't glaringly obvious. The site I picked was just one near the top on google. Reading it over, it seems to me the examples are very weak. This one might be better: http://www.fallacyfiles.org/ (the first site isn't just biased; it is fully wrong in some places. This message has been edited by AdminNosy, 02-13-2006 07:41 PM

Nosy, I thought Dawkin's alleged fallacies were exactly what was being discussed? Mark
