Percy, what happens if you follow Robin's foot steps?
Well, no one will notice until the server crashes for the first time, then Jar will attempt to contact me via Yahoo Messenger. My grieving wife won't notice this because my computer is password protected and no one but me can access it (it's the Nixon in me).
Jar will have a vague recollection of the webhosting company and eventually remember that it is ValueWeb. Unlike the many times I've called them they will actually be helpful and will reboot the server. With the server up Jar will have enough information to eventually trace the site back to me, and he'll place a phone call to my still sobbing wife who informs him of my unfortunate demise.
When Jar posts the unfortunate news here there will be gnashing of teeth and rending of garments for at least a couple hours before attention returns to Buzsaw's riveting pronouncements about the true nature of science. But Jar and Moose and Asgara and the other admins do not let me be forgotten, and inspired by my record of dedication and accomplishment they go on to build EvC Forum into a mammoth megalith that eventually acquires Yahoo, Google and Walmart.
Or were you asking a more general question?

What happens if something happens to you and then at the same time jar gets shipped back to the Amazon? Worse, what happens if at the same time Asgara gets killed by one of those ghost programs/intelligence from one of those cyberspace horror movies, moose gets mawed by one of his cats, and ned's country (canada) goes to war with USA and gets bombed back to the stoneage?
I really think you should think this through very carefully and come up with a good way to ensure the survival of this community.

On the other hand, we could let evolution take care of it. Those on-line communities that have evolved good leadership that plans ahead will survive and prosper, and those that don't will go extinct.
There *was* an on-line community on this very topic that died a few years ago in just this very way. I forget the name of the deceased founder now, but it started with "O". Obverse? Overt? Just can't remember. They had an interesting history. The community was hijacked by a renegade group of admins, and O had to hijack it back. I believe Fred Williams was an involved party. There's a thread somewhere here recounting this history, maybe someone can find it.

Seeing how you're not answering me directly, I'm just going to assume you have something up your sleeve. I've enjoyed reading this forum more than any other ever. I'd hate to see this forum go extinct like so many others in the past.
They had an interesting history. The community was hijacked by a renegade group of admins, and O had to hijack it back.
I think I read something about this before. I think it started out with the original founder turning power over to a creationist who in turn gave power to his fellow creationists. What followed next was a series of removals and editings of posts they didn't like, especially those that gave damaging evidence to counter creationism. After this creo reign of intellectual policing, the founder had to write a script to block out the other admins and resumed power.
I didn't know the community died out, though.

CreationWeb, founded by "Optional"

The name was "Optional".
See CreationWeb Problems - 2/2/03. There is also a link to another related topic to be found there.

Re: CreationWeb, founded by "Optional"
yeah, I'd wager this:
"hejsan alla. jag kan inte stanna har sa lagnt, men jag vill jarnar pratta med er senare" (spelled wrong, cause I can't spell worth crap in this language)
or this:
the third ingredient for cool ranch doritos. (could be wrong on this one, but hey, may as well give it a shot)
