Haha, I actually remember the scene now. Thanks. The first episode of the second season, where Dr. Pulaski replaces Dr. Crusher. She mispronounces Data's name. His name is pronounced Day-duh, but she pronounced it Da-Duh. When he corrects her, she asks what the big deal is, since he's just a machine. He responds, "One is my name, the other is not." I'm trying to see things your way, but I can't put my head that far up my ass.

quote: I agree. Even more so when there is reciprocity. How many churches in Mecca? melanie is a gem. The UK media and its journalists are akin to al jazeera, and have lost numerous court actions, when many more on the way, and almost monthly apologies from the BBC and Guardian when their discrepensies are highlighted by other media - such as melanie, who gives it back nicely. You won't find UK journos demanding a boycott of any Islamist media or universities - and this is not because they cannot find any reason to. The boycott of Israeli academics and universaties, was lost in a disgrace - but I wish it went ahead: Britain would be the loser. Israel is today the foremost high-tech and medicine innovator on the planet. of coz, I say all this to save Britain, being raised on that culture. But the pre-fix of great cannot be restored the direction she goes now. A good name is better than oil. Edited by IamJoseph, : No reason given.

quote: Its not going to kashmir which is the problem; its the demand for another state from India - that is the issue. Its about tossing grenades in schools, terrorists dressing as Indian policemen, and then massacreing all the children running to them for safety. That is not about wanting democrasy, and you do not really help muslims by slanting it as you do. Better, you advocate the tossing out of mafia regimes enslaving and corrupting the muslim populations, set up by Britain - for 30 barrels of oil. Britain boasting democrasy at home, but supporting and fostering it in the M/E is one great sham, and this makes UK the absolute enemy of muslims when the surpressed facts are uncovered. Further, democrasy and freedom fighters must start at home - not in India.
quote: This is not the case anymore. Of coz, you cannot say I or America hates all muslims. Who is chanting death to you infidel? Who is calling democrasy an evil? who is saying jews are born of apes and a duty to kill: jews, not even any particular ones - and not a whimper from democratic British journalists. Critical mass applies, and a good majority of muslims has to show itself in real times: naming its mass murderers by 'names', as opposed treating them like neo-prophets, and qualifying everything as equal, and all terror is bad. Britain must come clean, and cleanse the mess of purposeful devide and cnquer, and leave 'em devided and ever fighting, she left all over the planet. For a start, she should stop calling a deathly 3-state in Palestine as a 2-state for peace, and recall the declarations she made before the whole world: 'IT WILL BE AN HISTORIC COMPROMISE FOR PEACE TO GRANT TWO STATES IN PALESTINE - ONE FOR THE JEWS AND ONE FOR THE ARABS' - Churchill. Perhaps Britain needs a calculator and a history book. Of coz, even the creation of Jordan, the first 2-state, which carved out 80% of the small land allocated for jews, was one great attrocity, perpertrated when the jews were at their most helpless. If none are game to correct Britain, perhaps a greater force will do that - and use the same weapon planned against the jews: overwhelming her with a population which is clearly hell-bent on declared genocide. As if Britain does not know. Perhaps the terms like Londonistan and Britainistan, coined by melanie, are signs and omens?

I agree. Even more so when there is reciprocity. How many churches in Mecca? So just to get this straight, the lack of plurality in Mecca is a bad thing and we in Britain should react to this by being just as bad. Forgive me if I aspire to rather higher standards. I am not going to get dragged into an analysis of the UK media with you IaJ. That would require that you actually have some command of the subject. Inane statements such as;
The UK media and its journalists are akin to al jazeera, and have lost numerous court actions prove that you are unable to participate in an adult discussion. I am not going to continue this discussion with you because; a) This is all off topic. It has nothing to do with Bill O'Reilly beyond general Islamophobic bigotry. b) I do not have infinite time to waste on you. Even if I did, we would only get into a pointless argument about whether my infinite life had a beginning or not. Why not stick to your "Talking Balls" thread? Mutate and Survive

Is anyone keeping a running total of all the people IamJoseph has denigrated? Democrats, Muslims, Europeans... everybody but O'Reilly and Dubya, I think. Oh, and me. I'm a white, American, Mormon evolutionist with a wife and a baby, I have a B.S. in biology, I study bugs (Ph.D in entomology starts next month), and I'm (usually) politically neutral, if that helps you come up with something, IaJ: maybe you could call me a fence-sitter--that's usually a good tactic. Or you could say my religion is of the devil and is an affront to all that is good about Christianity. Or, you could say my baby is ugly and poops too loudly.
I don't usually like to go on the offensive like this, but I wanted to chance to expose the sort of thing that's going on. You've been on the offensive since your first post here. When people speak against your point, your tactic is to attack them by pointing out something they did wrong, and not address the point that was brought up. This sort of belligerence draws everybody in to attack you, and, the more people come in, the more insults you have to dish out, and the more likely more bystanders are going to get offended and want a piece of the action, and soon, it's you against the world. It shouldn't be any surprise to you that Bill O'Reilly is getting attacked by everybody on this forum, because he uses that same, belligerent tactic on his show. Even if he has a good point (I have occasionally thought so), he is completely tactless about telling it, and can't resist adding things like "and it's all your fault" at the end of his statements, and people hate him for it. People like Rrhain and Granny Magda would not be speaking so venomously about him if he were a well-mannered and civil human being. I'm Thylacosmilus. Darwin loves you.

Spellcheck time? Do you know what democrasy is and were it comes from? Not from the greeks, and it does not mean, following a multitude.
But you never responded to the factor of reciprocity, which remains critical aside from how it is spelled. One cannot read democratic laws to a wild dog charging at you with the limbs of one's kin in its jaws. I am not simply trying to win a point or prove myself wiser than you - but democrasy does not subsist w/o agreed reciprocation. Think about that if truth is the pursuit. The difference between O'reilly and CNN is, the former includes the plight of Jewish refugees from arab lands - which are far greater than all the arab refugee claims combined [UN archives] - and CNN's never ending hype of the world's least important grievience.

So, I was going to pretend I'm not a Trekkie (I stopped watching once I learned about real science), but I changed my mind.
Larni writes: That would be Lawxana. Actually, I'm pretty sure the "w" comes before the "a": "Lwaxana."

You like a no debate zone when it does not suit? Whatever happened to the truth will set you free - or call you to account? Sometimes, remaining neutral can be a greatest crime of all. IamJoseph writes: Spellcheck time?...democrasy... I hate to tell you this, IaJ (No I don't: who am I kidding?), but, Larni's right: it's spelled "democracy" in both the US and the UK.
IamJoseph writes: But you never responded to the factor of reciprocity... Given that you're Christian, I'm surprised that you missed the part where Jesus told us to do away with the flippin' "eye-for-an-eye, tooth-for-a-tooth" thing. Anyway, in regards to immigration: the UK doesn't really get upset about this because, as I imagine, very few of them want to immigrate to Pakistan.
IamJoseph, in Message #84, writes: Sometimes, remaining neutral can be a greatest crime of all. Apparently, to you and Bill, "Sometimes" means "all the time." Edited by Bluejay, : dBCodes again I'm Thylacosmilus. Darwin loves you.

I concede my spelling mishap. I contend that not wanting to immigrate and not being able to are different paradigms. And silence of this lack of reciprocity to Britain is not a great thing, nor a reason to attack me for pointing it out; in fact the situation is now globally pervasive. The post must transcend the poster, and I find your response inadequate to the issue.

Latest O'Reilly missives:
Syracuse University professor Boyce Watkins, in an effort to counter the racial bigotry of O'Reilly, started petition drives and email campaigns against Fox News' sponsors. O'Reilly got pissed and sent Porter Berry, a producer, to ambush Dr. Nancy Cantor, the Chancellor of Syracuse University. Sayeth Bill:
O'Reilly writes: Watkins hides behind academic freedom in his villainous pursuits. But Syracuse University should have academic standards and it apparently does not. Again, Watkins is using the university as cover. And what did Berry try to play gotcha with?
Berry writes: [Dr. Watkins] is saying Bill O'Reilly wants to lynch Michelle Obama and using the good name of Syracuse University to spread these kinds of lies. But, here's what O'Reilly said on February 19 on his radio program:
O'Reilly writes: I don't want to go on a lynching party against Michelle Obama unless there's evidence, hard facts, that say this is how the woman really feels. And even more telling, O'Reilly hyped a story of two men "acting suspiciously" on a Seattle ferry last year. It seems that passengers saw a couple of men on a ferry taking pictures and the FBI asked the Seattle media outlets to publish their photos so that they could be tracked down. The Seattle Post-Intelligencer refused since there were no charges. O'Reilly sent another producer, this one named "Jesse" to the home of the publisher of the SP-I, demanding to know if he was "proud" of that decision as, according to Bill nad Jesse, the two men had never been found:
O'Reilly writes: So now we have a situation where some Americans are putting all of us in danger because they hate Mr. Bush so much. The men remain at large; the FBI is still looking for them, but the Post-Intelligencer remains unrepentant. Problem with that: The two men were businessmen from Europe on a business trip to Seattle. Doing as many business travellers do when they have some free time, they went sight-seeing and took pictures of each other on the ferry. How do we know this? Because the two men decided weeks ago to go to the US embassy and identify themselves as well as turn over the pictures they took. So not only did O'Reilly get everything about this story wrong, he deliberately decided to terrorize his audience, claiming that they were under imminent threat of attack... ...because some tourists decided to take a couple of holiday snaps. Apparently all cameras will need to be registered with the government. O'Reilly is also trying to continue his smear campaign of MSNBC by claiming that GE, the owner of MSNBC, is doing buisness with Iran:
O'Reilly writes: The General Electric Corporation, through foreign subsidiaries, continues to do business with Iran. Just today, a report from Germany says the Draeger Company sold the mullahs software that now can be used for military purposes, and that software was made by a company controlled by GE. But here's the problem: Draeger isn't owned by GE. It is an independent company. Draeger was contracted by Iran to build a pipeline surveillance system. In carrying out that contract, Draeger purchased software written by a subsidiary company of GE's. That software has both civil and military uses and export restrictions apply. Those restrictions were not handled properly when Draeger, which has no connections to GE, sold the system (including the software) to Iran. And when Draeger found out about it, they notifed the US authorities. So why is Bill saying that GE is the one doing this? For a while there (and it might still be the case, I'm not sure), the Sony Playstation 2 was considered a "supercomputer" and export restrictions applied. You could not sell them in or to Iraq. Now, suppose Wal-Mart opened up a branch in Baghdad and put the PS2 on the shelves. Is Sony to blame for Wal-Mart taking the shipment and sending it off to Iraq? No? Then how is GE at fault for Draeger shipping the software to Iran? Rrhain Thank you for your submission to Science. Your paper was reviewed by a jury of seventh graders so that they could look for balance and to allow them to make up their own minds. We are sorry to say that they found your paper "bogus," specifically describing the section on the laboratory work "boring." We regret that we will be unable to publish your work at this time.

Hi, IamJoseph. First, I want to apologize to you for being rude and childish and for not giving your points due consideration. It's kind of ironic that I criticized your belligerence with a belligerent style of my own.
IamJoseph writes: The post must transcend the poster... In other words, you shouldn't just blather out your personal opinions, but actually provide good commentary on the issue at hand? In all due respect, I do not believe you are doing this very well yourself (on any thread I've been on with you). In your own words:
IamJoseph, in "Spherical Issues," post #85 writes: I had the same debate with a cosmologist, who said the universe has no centre. And he was backed by a host of other scientists and links, and presented his almost globally agreed position. And I say its wrong. I'm seeing this mindset in all your posts.
IamJoseph writes: ...and I find your response inadequate to the issue. It probably was inadequate. I apologize. I hope you will consider the following response adequate:
IamJoseph writes: I contend that not wanting to immigrate and not being able to are different paradigms. I agree with you. However, who's going to complain about not being able to immigrate if they don't want to immigrate and don't know anybody who wants to immigrate? Your argument that the UK should demand reciprocity is asking them to start a conflict on a principle that, in the end, doesn't matter anyway. Did you grow up with sisters? I have three. The younger ones would always say "no boys allowed in our room," and even put up signs on their door. This really didn't seem like a punishment to me, because their room was always painted pink and was full of dolls. So, I shrugged and went downstairs to watch cartoons. Occasionally, I would attack the thing on principle, because it made me look powerless if I didn't, but that only led to fights, and I'd get a spanking or have to sit in the corner for an hour or something. I still wish I had been smart enough and humble enough to let it go. What I see with this Muslim reciprocity thing you're talking about is that demanding that they change their ways will only lead to more wars (just like attacking my sisters' "unfair rules" would lead to fights), and nobody but US Republicans and Al-Qaeda seems to want that. I'm also sure this will become a bigger issue to people when the Muslim population of the United States and/or other countries grows to macroscopic size, and Christians begin to realize that they may lose their religion to Allah. But, it's a very conservative, Republican, Christian, Bill O'Reilly thing to do to start a conflict on a principle. Like you said sometimes we may have to "take a stand" and offend or even kill somebody doing it, but, to do so where there is no need because of what might happen in the future does not count as "sometimes" in my book (did you ever see the movie Minority Report?) Edited by Bluejay, : Apparently, it's not spelled "inadeaquate." I'm Thylacosmilus. Darwin loves you.
