A lot of people who call themselves "conservative" would be better called "reactionary". They do want change but mostly backward change. They want to get back to the good old days when all (white) men were created equal, women were in the kitchen, homosexuals were in the closet, abortions were in back alleys and Muslims were far away.

For conservative Christians, I suppose it makes sense that they want to conserve their perverted view of "fallen" man. If man was capable of improvement, who would need their perverted "gospel"?
