Noetherian Atheist writes:All you know is it's a root of an irreducible polynomial of degree 3.
My Galois theory is a bit rusty. As I recall, given an algebraic number, there is a
minimal polynomial (a polynomial of least degree) that it satisfies (that part is trivial), and any polynomial that it satisfies is a multiple of the minimal polynomial. So it cannot be a root of an irreducible polynomial of degree a power of 2 (else that polynomial would not be irreducible).
Hmm, wouldn't a Noetherian (atheist or not) know that?
