Is there any reason for read announcements to appear there at all? Why not simply include unread announcements, and then remove them when read? Wouldn't that be drawing sufficient attention to them?
Also:
Browsers disabled the blink feature long ago because of how annoying they are Do you not think that should have told you something? Edited by Mr Jack, : Additional

Mr Jack writes: Do you not think that should have told you something? It told me that the blink feature as originally implemented was flawed, but this decision was made at a time prior to webpages having any significant dynamic content. My implementation uses an opacity of .5, so it's a more subtle blink, and in the context of today's Internet with pop-ups and animated ads and auto-scrolling and so forth, mere blinking seems like an option that should be available to discussion board administrators. The question I'm trying to answer is how best to provide this capability, and your feedback is helpful. As I understand you, you'd like announcements to disappear after they're read, and you don't want blinking under any circumstances.

As far as I am concerned the blinking is a non-issue. In a way I like it because it draws my attention to it and I then make the decision to click on it. I am rarely looking at that part of a page anyway(I am busy reading the threads). I am surprised someone could be so worked up about it that they feel a need for profanity and being rude.
Keep up the good work. Facts don't lie or have an agenda. Facts are just facts

Is there any reason for read announcements to appear there at all? Why not simply include unread announcements, and then remove them when read? Often one of the purposes of the announcements is to include a link to one or more topics, to which you may wish to post to if you find some sort of problem. It serves to help one find those topics at a later time. - Thus it's good to keep the announcement available. There currently is discussion in "The Private Administration Forum", on getting the "Index to certain important topics" out of the announcements area. It's looking that it's going to end up there with "Profile", "FAQ", "Rules", etc. Adminnemooseus

The weekend release introduced one new feature that some of you may already have noticed: Dynamic Menus. If you hover over the Essential Links item in the top menu you'll see that the links appear in a drop down menu. If you slide down to the Posts of the Month item you'll see that the menus can cascade as a list of links to past Posts of the Month threads appears.
Feedback, issues, problems, comments welcome.

It seems to be near the top of the "All Forums" page. What "Essential Links item in the top menu"? I rarely visit that page, so I had to go looking in order to find it. Jesus was a liberal hippie

Interesting. When I went to all forums it was there and when I returned to topics it was ...THERE!
"Insert miracle" there he did. Halleluiah! Preach the Gospel Brother.

Sorry, my fault. I had set the status level for that menu item to Director so that only Moose could see it and provide feedback, but he's been busy so I've set the status level to normal and everyone should see it on all pages now.

I may be wrong, but I think it's something beyond incompetence on my part - The settings controls just don't seem to be working correctly.

Hi Adminnemooseus!
Do not despair, and thank you for trying out the new menu definition feature. I'll take a look, we can trade notes later, I need feedback on it about what is good about it and what's not.
