Re: Increase the aid to Uganda as the proper response.
The money is not just given to the Ugandan government but rather to low level local organizations.
Look at the link I supplied and it provides details of how the aid is organized.
The important point is that if we do not do the educating the Fundies will.
But isn't it within the Ugandan government's authority to educate its citizenry?
How is it our business anymore than it's the Fundies'?

Maybe because it is in our best interest.

Facts don't lie or have an agenda. Facts are just facts
"God did it" is not an argument. It is an excuse for intellectual laziness.

Re: Increase the aid to Uganda as the proper response.
I pointed out one big reason up thread; Uganda imports more from the US than it exports to the US and so it is in our interest to keep Uganda stable. In addition, an educated citizenry is always the best protection against oppression. Education reduces the need for emergency aid and also reduces suffering by teaching proper farming and distribution techniques, health care.
As I have said before, IMHO the biggest threat to humankind today are the US Biblical Christian Fundamentalists and this thread is just another example of how insidious and evil they really are. The proper response to their efforts to teach is not to deny them passports or restrict their efforts but rather to educate the audience so that no matter where in the world they try to peddler their Snake Oil they are greeted with laughter and derision.

Anyone so limited that they can only spell a word one way is severely handicapped!

Re: Increase the aid to Uganda as the proper response.
And what happens when/if the Ugandan government decides they don't want us funding parts of their society at our discretion?
The proper response to their efforts to teach is ... to educate the audience so that no matter where in the world they try to peddler their Snake Oil they are greeted with laughter and derision.
Ostensibly more expensive than restricting passports.
