Please put things in context.
The goal of modern Conservative Politics is to make Big Government ineffective and eventually obsolete. It is explicit Laissez-faire writ large.

Merger of Labor and Education Departments should pretty much assure the US of Third World status within a generation.
So much for education other than job training.

In the US most businesses have a somewhat uniform salary/wage policy. Certain jobs get paid certain wages; most often based on the scale negotiated by the unions. The split wage scale model (union vs non-union) worker simply does not exist. That means the non-union workers benefit from the wage/benefit packages negotiated by the unions even when not a union member.

The issue is really a matter of governments. Look at the data available online at how wealth is distributed among a nations population and you will see that the US is an outlier among the developed nations in income disparity with very rich and very poor and an ever smaller middle class. We've been in the Liaise Fare position as recently as post WWII and historically corporate America has not worked to benefit the middle class.
Another 900 pound gorilla is needed to help balance the situation particularly as our government moves increasingly towards Fascism.

There is another even more horrific aspect to the unrestrained capitalism. First, as you can see the practice was not restricted to remote areas but found even in urban areas. Second, since the script was not transferable a worker could not even save anything that could be used to transfer to some other company or location.
Also, the fight to stop the creation of unions or require wages to be paid in common currency extended through many industries, particularly in the cotton mills all the way into the 1980s. The Greensboro Massacre (opposing the Klan and corporatism) was in 1979.

The coins are from three different companies, all cotton mills. But the mills also owned most of the housing and even things like the graveyard and could simply expel "agitators". There were about a dozen different script makers, mostly in the north east.

Stile writes: But I don't see much of a difference between a constant union and a constant threat of a union (a union that could be created instantly by workers at any time.) Other than the real union would get dues when no more union-work is currently required (workers are already doing great). I am assuming that workers can join/leave unions at any time.Or minimally - on short contracts. Is this true? Not quite. It is not easy to create a Union under US laws, much less create one that the companies need to recognize. The only real power is the possibility of mass walkouts and in most cases the company is then free to simply replace the striking workers.

Consider the effects of the recent SCOTUS ruling on Class Action Law Suits.
If banding together to try to force companies to obey the existing laws is prohibited I'm not sure how a new union could even be formed.

And extreme Nationalism, a lean towards Fundamentalist Religion, Corporatism (Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission) and aligning education as solely job training. The latter is best exemplified by the suggestion that the Department of Education should be subsumed into the Department of Labor.

Remember, it is only the Christian Cult of Ignorance that supports Trump, not all Christians.

So far it seems Trump considers the two largest economies in the world, China & the EU as trading foes. Add in Canada and Mexico, the two other NAFTA trading partners. Germany and the UK as well as France and Italy have also been cited as issues, for example Germany being "totally controlled by Russia".
Perhaps Trump would like to see Germany return to it's prior position as in the early 1900s and again in 1933? That certainly worked in the past.
