I think driving drunk is a pretty good analogy for people who are endangering other people while thinking they're just "going on with their lives".
Nobody is driving drunk... Faith writes:
I haven't mentioned the US at all. In fact, Canada is a worse offender (though it is somewhat explainable because of our cold climate, vast distances and small population.) And you don't even focus on the real offenders according to your own theory, you focus on the US....Maturity, one discovers, has everything to do with the acceptance of ‘not knowing. -- Mark Z. I keep going back to Big Tobacco. We knew what the science was. They knew what the science was. Smoking caused millions of cases of cancer, emphysema, heart disease. But to the public, even in testimony to congress, they lied. In advertising they lied. They published their own medical studies that fudged the results. Finally, in 1997, when they could not contain all the lawsuits, they admitted their product kills people. Millions died because of their greed.
Today we see the same thing with the Big Carbon. We know what the science is. They know what the science is. But to the public, even in testimony to congress, they lie. In advertising they lie. They publish their own studies that have been shown to fudge the results. They spend billions on countering the evidence in public, in congress and, now, on social media. It is not a difference of opinion. It is an outright lie about the facts and the dead bodies they produce. In this case it is not a few million that will die of preventable disease, it is the whole of humanity and our existence on this planet that they threaten ... for money and power. I know you cannot understand, do not want to understand, the evil here. They have their black tentacles implanted in your brain. You, and so many millions of others, have fallen for their subterfuge and are now a major part of the problem our species faces.Eschew obfuscation. Habituate elucidation.

Of course you have the right to be stupid. And in fact you exercise that right constantly.
But the trolls are the same folk that built death camps, created more efficient poison gasses, gladly used slave labor and for the last half century or more have stopped all attempts to mitigate the coming pain; they are primarily Big Business and all it's little minions commonly known as the Republican Congressmen.

How is Big Carbon KILLING PEOPLE? As I pursued the issue of the death of the birds I discovered that it's HOUSECATS that are killing them off, not Big Carbon and not any of the alternative energy sources either. And I think ALL the causes should be controlled as far as possible but it's CATS that are doing the damage you are imputing to Big Carbon. The African animals are going extinct because of the locals who kill them for profit. American elk are being killed by the wolves that also making farming impossible in the northwest now after environmentalists reintroduced them and protect them. Etc etc etc. YOU GUYS CAN CAUSE AS MANY PROBLEMS AS YOU WANT TO CURE BECAUSE YOU CAN'T KNOW EVERYTHING ALTHOUGH YOU THINK YOU DO.
How is Big Carbon killing us? And why aren't you targeting Beijing OR Saudi Arabia and other oil producers instead of the US, and why aren't you moving to the north pole instead of staying where the worst of it is going to hit? It is not as similar to the Big Tobacco situation as you want to claim because we can all see the direct dangers of smoking, we cannot see this problem you impute to Big Carbon in the same way at all. It's too big and vague and not personal. Despite your objections it is true that they are producing what the society needs. NOBODY EVER NEEDED tobacco, but we do need heat and airconditioning and generators of electricity and transportation unless you want everything that brought us to modernity to disappear completely. Maybe we SHOULD go back to the horse and buggy but you haven't proved it yet. Ane we know perfectly well that after we get sent back to that condition the power elite are going to continue in their jets and yachts and limousines anyway. Edited by Faith, : No reason given. How is Big Carbon KILLING PEOPLE? Seriously? You can research dead birds but not dead people? Here, right off the top of the stack. SciAm 2009 - The Impact of Global Warming on Human Fatality Rates quote: And I don't want to hear any of your leftist liberal commie conspiracy bias crap! Our Global Warming problem is killing people *today* and will kill ever more ever faster in the decades and centuries to come.
It is not as similar to the Big Tobacco situation as you want to claim because we can all see the direct dangers of smoking, we cannot see this problem you impute to Big Carbon in the same way at all. Oh come on! You were around in the 70s-80s. You know the controversy and doubt Big Tobacco created in the public mind. Faith, why this disingenuous BS?Eschew obfuscation. Habituate elucidation.

Wow. What that quote is talkig about is Global Warming, not Big Carbon. You are assuminjg Big Carbon is the reason for it. And nothing is even mentioned about how the deaths were caused and how they know it had to do with global warming. And nothing is mentioned about any actual change in weather conditions to blame for the deaths and illnesses either. One thing I hear these days is that it isn't really right to call it Global Warming because what is happening is a lot of crazy weather patterns. This quote is assuming a warming trend that isn't documented at least in this part you quote. Mystification here I'm afraid, not science.
150,000 deaths out of a world population of almost eight billion people are being ascribed to Global Warming? Really? (For comparison: 1.4 billion birds are killed by housecats). You take this seriously? Even with no change in the climate at all that many probably die of heat stroke or floods or other weather related things every year anyway. And illnesses. -...speeding the spread of infectious diseases such as malaria and dengue fever; creating conditions that lead to potentially fatal malnutrition and diarrhea; and increasing the frequency and severity of heat waves, floods and other weather-related disasters. This is all presented in a hypothetical, no actual facts are given. It doesn't even say there really is such an increase let alone make a case for the cause in global warming. Growing populations could bring about such phenomena without any weather change. And again you are blaming this Big Carbon without knowing that it is contributing anything at all to any of this. Even if we really are getting global warming, and it looks to me like we are, I think the receding of the Ice Age is a sufficient explanation. But you think that drilling for oil in a few places around the globe is causing this? Really? NO. Ridicule me, call me names, accuse me. This is ridiculous. AbE: You know what? I think this bit of information has pushed me over the edge, absolutely killed off what respect I had for the science of global warming as ascribed to human causes. This is so ridiculous I can hardly believe an intelligent person would take it seriously for half a minute. Blech. Edited by Faith, : No reason given. Edited by Faith, : No reason given. Save yourself and your loved ones! Move to Saskatchewan or even farther north. Get yourself a horse and buggy. Build a greenhouse. Collect rainwater for when the aquifers give out. Plant lots of trees so you can use some of them for burning wood in your fireplace in case the warming trend doesn't kick in right away, and maybe help out the birds. I wish you well. Of course I will already be dead myself either from natural causes or global warming, but if I'm not I'll raise a toast to you with my Quad Venti Whole Milk Latte.
Cheers. Edited by Faith, : No reason given. Edited by Faith, : No reason given. Edited by Faith, : No reason given. Edited by Faith, : No reason given. Edited by Faith, : No reason given.

Actually I don't, and I shouldn't have to say so but such a lie will stand if I don't.

Actually you do. Biology and geology for a start - and by implication their foundations, chemistry and physics. When you deny one science, by necessity you deny them all.

No I love and appreciate all those sciences, just not the ones that pretend to know things about the prehistoric past they obviously don't. Or the future.

Oh I'll be long dead before any of those actions become necessary to survive. Though, I have advised my children to consider where their future, and the futures of the grandchildren, lay. Northern New England, northern west coast, Canada are options. Scandinavia is another.
