This quirk seems to be worthy of its own topic.
I have just completed adding a link to a POTM nomination, namely a link to http://EvC Forum: Evolution is a basic, biological process -->EvC Forum: Evolution is a basic, biological process.
Initally I had just gone to the (current) end of that topic (http://EvC Forum: Evolution is a basic, biological process -->EvC Forum: Evolution is a basic, biological process) and added the "#97" to get http://EvC Forum: Evolution is a basic, biological process -->EvC Forum: Evolution is a basic, biological process. But this link does not get you to message 97 - It doesn't even get you to the page that has message 97.
To make it work, you must have "97#97" at the end of the URL. I would guess that "98#97" would also work, but would "96#97"?
The bottom line - Creating links to specific messages is a bit trickier than it used to be.
Comments from others?

If you go to the message you want to link to, follow one of either the "replies" or "this is a reply to" links and then return you can just cut and paste the URL - that's what I do, anyway.

I always use the msg=forum, thread, message format. So far it's always worked for me when I type correctly. LOL

Yet another new feature ??
Since the site receives a request to reply to a post could that post (if it is the last one on the thread) be flagged in the list all topics page?
Just a small mark indicating that it is in the process of being replied to. This would allow someone to hold off posting untill they see what someone else is saying. Might reduce overlapping posts.
It would also be interesting to see if anyone is actually "there".

Re: Yet another new feature ??
If people do as I sometimes do I'm not so sure that'd work out so well, Ned. I'll sometimes start a post then open a new window to go look something up. It's not unusual for me to get lost looking for something and forget what I was doing, then go back later and see that I've had that edit window open for a looooong time.
This little habit of mine has gotten worse since I switched from Explorer to Firefox. Tabbed browsing makes it too easy to get lost.

True, but that requires that the post in question is a reply or was replied to.
Some people seem to think that they're above using the correct reply button when responding to posts, alas. This is compared to newbies who don't know any better.
When an isolated post shows up, I'll take a link that is close to the post in question on the same page and then hack it so that the URL points to the correct post, which you can usually figure out by the nature of the URL.
