In this topic, I propose to discuss what standard, if any, should Christian Radio and Television be held up to. In a free country, people are of course allowed to believe and say virtually anything they want.

What standard, if any, should Christian radio and TV be held to?

Faith & Belief, please

Just a personal opinion here.

I think they should emulate NPR. That is to say, they should be commercial free, supported by listeners and other donors.

At one time, I listened to a Christian radio station while driving to work. And there were lots of advertisements. Some of the ads seemed to be from sleazy outfits. When people listen to Christian radio, they don't expect to be scammed. The safest way is to keep the station commercial free.

Note: I stopped listening when they switch to become a rock music station. This suggests that it was really always about money.

Note2: When I suggest emulating NPR, I am talking only about the support model. Obviously the programming and content would be different.

controls?????
The controls should about the same as for similar programming (infomercials, WWE, UFC, The X Factor, Survivor, Bridezilla, hunting for Monsters).

What would Jesus broadcast?
Perhaps they should be held to Jesus' standards.

Then I could hear the love.

Whats the point?

Good idea! I hate ads...especially christian ones. They are too sappy.

I can't stand most Radio Pastors. (nor televangelists) I now feel that I can preach as well or better than most all of them. In fact, all I listen to these days is the Bible On Tape (NIV edition)

Seriously? Dude - You need to get out more.

As for your topic question - jar summed it up - Why should Christian radio have different standards enforced on it to any other radio broadcasting?

If we hung out we would have fun. I don't do bongs any more, but you could...and we could go check out some of Denvers comedy clubs.

Get Out More
Seriously? Dude - You need to get out more.
I didn't mean to imply that that's all I do. I read lots of different articles on a wide variety of topics.

I listen to lots of other radio too...songs of every type. What I meant to imply was that if I want to be spiritually fed, I listen to NIV on tape rather than some canned sermon.

And lately, I have been out quite a bit. Im doing a show on Blog TV. I am mentoring several gang kids. I go to counseling classes. I hit the health club up 3 times a week. And I never forget to visit my dear Mom, though she still does the cooking.

Nothing pleases me to read more than this. Well, maybe if you brought that up to 5-6 days a week. With at least one day a week spent learning MMA. That would be better.

If you have to do only 3 days, spend at the very least 5 hours at the gym.

Mom, though she still does the cooking.

I don't like the sound of that - Keep away from carbs!

What do you do? We'll just do that. You prefer pipes, joints, edibles?

and we could go check out some of Denvers comedy clubs.

You guys have a great comedy scene out in Denver. I have a few friends from there and one friend that does comedy there now. We can do that, sure thing. No bible on tape though. We listen to one thing and one thing only: gangsta rap

My wife's family lives in Chicago, we live near Toronto, Ontario. Visitation drives take us through Michigan.
On our rides, we never miss The Bob Dutko Show.
Or, as I like to call him, Count Dooku.

The guy is hilarious.

The stuff he says about women and politics and pretty much everything else is just so crazy. Can't turn off the radio; like watching a train wreck.

Plus all the commercials... bring your car here! Take these pills! Invest now! It's just awesome.

What standard, if any, should Christian radio and TV be held to?

Meh... nothing special.
It would be interesting, though, to see what would happen if they actually tried to be honest

Is Niceness a fruit of the Spirit?
Shiny Happy Jesus People

While I wont yet go so far as to vilify Joel Osteen, I will point out that niceness is not a fruit of the Spirit. Comments?

Add by edit: The Christians also vilify same sex marriage. I will state publically that I believe that some men are attracted to their own gender, but I will also add that the purpose of such attraction is not to commune in the flesh with another man. The purpose of the attraction is, in my opinion, to minister spiritually to other men. That being said, I do not believe that any authoritarian institution, be it government or church, has the right nor duty to legislate morality. That is between us as individuals and GOD, creator of all seen and unseen...knowable only through His Son, Jesus.

Edited by Phat, : added belief statement

So this all just an excuse to preach?
What you feel or believe has nothing to do with the topic, so why do you feel the need to preach?

Facts don't lie or have an agenda. Facts are just facts

"God did it" is not an argument. It is an excuse for intellectual laziness.
