I found this article interesting, and I think it's relevent for the members of this board, so am posting it for your benefit and (if you wish) comment.
Tests of faith | Science | The Guardian
The link points to a newspaper article titled "Tests of faith: Religion may be a survival mechanism. So are we born to believe?". It describes levels of belief in a divine creator in a few different countries (i.e. 85% in US, 98% in Nigeria) and gives an overview of psychological theories of belief in God. It specifically concentrates on the question of whether "belief in God" might have been selected for by evolutionary processes, or whether it is "byproduct" or emergent property of complex brains.
If (like me) you don't follow the psychological literature, this is useful in providing some quick theories and authors that might be worth looking up on this interesting topic.
Cheers!
Mick

Try to provide a little more content.
Even in the section designed for links of interest, we like posters to provide a summary in their own words explaining the content of the link and the reason anyone should have an interest. Can you go back and edit your OP to include more information?
Thank you.
