Re: Back on topic...
I saw it last night Yaro, and I agree with you. I think it was a movie that needed to be made and a view point that needed to be shown.
Yes, Moore definately has an opinion and yes this movie is about that opinion only. Yes much of this is things I've heard before, but I totally agree that having everything laid out in one fell swoop is something that has been missing.
I highly recommend this film for everyone.

Custard: So who would you consider to be a liberal?
Crash: In politics? I dunno. I can't think of any. Dean, maybe?
In other areas there's a bunch. But nobody who opposes gay marriage, or would rather compromise with civil unions, is a liberal in my book. (So maybe not Dean, then.)
You realize, of course, that you have just defined away the entire left of the political spectrum?
I'm not sure who should be more concerned, the left who are really in the middle now, or the right who have just been projected into space.
Surely there must be some liberals left out there...

You realize, of course, that you have just defined away the entire left of the political spectrum?
You realize, of course, that I know nothing about politics? (I presume that was obvious.)
All I know is, when I look around and see the opinions and positions held by the majority of intelligent people I know, which a lot of them define as "liberal", they bear no resemblance to the policies of any politician I'm aware of. Those policitians that folks call "liberal" are Baptists compared to the positions of real, well-thought-out, principled liberalism.
How can you be a liberal and oppose gay marriage? I'm not saying that it's the only important issue - it's not really that important - but in a way it's a kind of weathervane - it's a measure of how important personal freedom and equality are to you, and whether you'll place them over traditional culture. (Would that make it a "whether-vane"?)

Kermee looks up from his lillypad and asks:
How can you be a liberal and oppose gay marriage?
How can you be a conservative and oppose Gay Marriage?
A lot of what is happening is neither Liberal or Conservative, but rather a simple fear of anything different. There is little difference between the anti-gay marriage folk and the anti-gun folk. Both work purely from emotion and totally without reason.
The problem I see today is that emotion has supplanted reason and logic on both the left and right. And it is getting worse daily.

My attempts to see the movie were torn down today, needed an ID, annoying.
That sucks. One of the theaters here in SF is advertising on its marquee that it is not enforcing the R rating.

Re: Back on topic...
In any case, Moore dosn't seem to fudge more here than he did in his previous film.
That certainly isn't a ringing endorsement of 9/11's factual accuracy. Columbine had the same level of journalistic integrity as an In Search Of episode about Nessie or Bigfoot.

How can you be a conservative and oppose Gay Marriage?
Great point Jar. One can agree with many politically 'conservative' ideas and still espouse personal freedom. Libertarians are, in general, economically conservative - they don't believe in big government or tight government controls championed by the left - but strongly believe in personal choice for all sorts of things that the Limbaugh/Buchanan crowd do not.
The problem I see today is that emotion has supplanted reason and logic on both the left and right. And it is getting worse daily.
Nothing new to politics. Just look at some of the great debates between the Jeffersonians and the Hamiltonians.

Asgara,
One of the criticisms of this movie I have read several times now, from pro-Moore and anti-Moore camps, is that this film was basically a re-hash of Dude, Where's My Country?
I read the book, which I found unconvincing, but will not pay $10 to see this film. Did anyone out there who saw the movie read Dude? If so, what significant revelations do you think Moore presented that he did not address in the book?

oops.. I ment he seems to fudge less here than he did in Columbine
Most of the stuff is pretty much gleened from the headlines, and I didn't catch anything glaringly contradictory, If anything one can take issue with Moors opinion as opposed to the things he has them about.

You see that video on the net where Al and Bill "I've got a No Spin Zone coffee mug to sell you for $20" O'Reilly were at a book release event? He had Bill fuming; I thought his head was going to explode.
I read about it, but haven't seen the video. Do you have a URL? That'd be a riot...

Halliburton could make a lot more money cutting deals with Saddam (as did French and German companies).
How exactly would you support this statement?
1) Why would Hussein be willing to deal with American companies? The Bush administration was saying as early as January 2001 that Hussein was the single biggest obstacle to US oil interests in the middle east. Did this change between then and when we invaded, creating an America-friendly environment in Iraq that we could have dealt with financially?
2) Assuming such a deal could be made, how do you know profits would have been higher? What kind of amazing one-shot offer was Hussein making to US companies that would be higher than those that will now be made for decades to come by dealing with a newly America-friendly government?

How exactly would you support this statement?
He's probably basing it on the juicy oil deals being cut with the Taliban in Afghanistan (lots o' pipeline stuff) shortly before their "guest" launched an attack on 9-11.
And you know, since Iraq and the Taliban were working together, if we could get a deal with one we'd have got a deal with the other just as easy.

Oh man, 9/11 was the number one movie this weekend? GWB must have soiled himself when he saw that this morning.
Other food for thought: do you realize that if 9/11 maintains its steam at the box office (25K per screen which blew away its closes competitor white chicks at about 7k per screen) that three of the biggest movies this year will be 9/11, Passion of the Christ, and Shrek2?
Interesting reflection of American society.

Interesting reflection of American society.
I think you meant to say "perfect reflection". That is of course, as long as Shrek ends up beating out both of the others.
