I really don't know what to make of it either - the second sentence stopped me for a minute, though. "Round and a sphere" in three places? Really? We've been over this ground here before, and "sphere" just ain't there in the text. That's not a real good start for a "Bible accuracy" thread.

Clay under a seal is clearly describing the earth as circuluar
Thanks for that verse: it proves my point even further. Clay under a seal will indeed be circular and disk-shaped, not spherical in the least. The ancient Hebrews pretty obviously held the Earth to be a disk - otherwise we can't have the devil showing Jesus "all the kingdoms of the world" from a mountain, or God "above" and looking down on (presumably) all the grasshopper-like people on the circle of the Earth. How do you sit "above" a sphere, exactly, when that sphere is big enough to have its own noticeable gravity?

Re: TOPIC folk.
he speaks at one point of the earth's plates that move about. This is a very recent discovery, and yet the second book of Esdras (Apocrypha, should have been included in the Bible, but was removed for some reason; Lord knows why) tells of this
I'm calling you on this. I sure find nothing of the sort at BibleNet - http://www.biblenet.net/library/apocrypha/?s= - when I search for "earth" or "plates". Chapter & verse, please.

Re: TOPIC folk.
I don't see much of that:
13 He answered and said to me, "Rise to your feet and you will hear a full, resounding voice. 14And if the place where you are standing is greatly shaken 15while the voice is speaking, do not be terrified; because the word concerns the end, and the foundations of the earth will understand 16that the speech concerns them. They will tremble and be shaken, for they know that their end must be changed."
17 When I heard this, I got to my feet and listened; a voice was speaking, and its sound was like the sound of mightye waters.
Those "foundations" sound suspiciously like the "foundations" or "pillars" elsewhere in the Bible - the ones that our disc-shaped Earth stands upon. Hardly continental plates.
The same chapter has some very nice imagery, but involving no sphere:
He said to me, "At the beginning of the circle of the earth, beforea the portals of the world were in place, and before the assembled winds blew, 2and before the rumblings of thunder sounded, and before the flashes of lightning shone, and before the foundations of paradise were laid, 3and before the beautiful flowers were seen, and before the powers of movementsb were established, and before the innumerable hosts of angels were gathered together, 4and before the heights of the air were lifted up, and before the measures of the firmaments were named, and before the footstool of Zion was established, 5and before the present years were reckoned and before the imaginations of those who now sin were estranged, and before those who stored up treasures of faith were sealed-- 6then I planned these things, and they were made through me alone and not through another; just as the end shall come through me alone and not through another."
That's all NRSV - would another translation sound more like what Wegener had in mind re plate tectonics?

Re: TOPIC folk.
For one, you have no idea what the Bible is really referring to on most of its topics, including the pillars and foundations.
Oh, but you know. I knew that......
I quoted everything relevant that I found in 2 Esdras chapter 6, Umliak.
