I have seen older classifications which put the woolly mammoths (
Mammuthus primigenius) as a member of genus
Elephas,
Elephas primigenius. Your work might be a good point to start testing TB's proposal. Maybe you & he can work together to determine if
Mammuthus is in the same 'kind' with the two extant elephant species.
