based on part of the end of the yec thread and scraf's post therein
what effect does a traditional upbringing (ie men as leaders) have on girls?in this question lies not a discussion of what the proper roles for a girl might be; rather what a girl brought up in a traditional environment will think of herself in regards to professional life. will she be afraid to take a promotion because she wonders whether it's appropriate for her to have a leadership role over a man? Brennakimi,
Your PNT is a bit scant on details. Reading through the thread you mentioned this morning, it seemed there were other topics being discussed. I want to run them by you and get your clarification. - What does the Bible say about the role of women?- What effect does an upbringing within one of the Christian churches have on girls? - (your question) what effect does a traditional upbringing (ie men as leaders) have on girls? The first is "Bible Study", the second two are "Coffee House." For the "Coffee House" threads, I'm going to insist that people speak using arguments based on known evidence, not just from personal experience or general philosophical "rational" thought. I can already see that this topic will border on mud-slinging, and I think we have enough such topics already. So I'm going to keep a tight leash on this. Anyway, lease let me know which of those questions you're interested in addressing. Since there are multiple questions in that previous thread, I think it would be worth mentioning in the OP that you're choosing to focus on one area or another here. Thanks. i guess i'm not sure. i think it's a bit of all.
how's this. different groups interpret the bible differently on the role of women in religious roles. we could spend hours debating what the bible says and what it means, and accomplish nothing. how does the upbringing of men in leadership roles and women in teaching roles of women and children affect the lives of women in the rest of the world? note: this is not a solely christian issue as this is a quite common world belief. i suppose that means it's coffee house.

This needs to be defined a little better.
Can you try to outline the possibilities with some specific examples? For example,

no. people are going to simply disagree about that.
what i'm trying to ask is stated here by scraf.
quote: i mean i suppose the response from faith was a good question too, of why we only value "men's" roles. but being an academic and being outside of it, i don't value any roles so i don't care.

I'f it's any help at all, I would have responded to Faith's question of of "why we only value "men's" roles" by saying that we don't only
value men's traditional roles. I would have then asked: Is it OK for a boy to defer to girls' opinions. Is it OK for a boy to be led by a girl in any endeavor? Is it OK for a man to be employed at a company owned by a woman and for her to have authority over him?

well see most modern thinkers don't see 'roles'. most people see jobs that anyone can do. arguing over whether or not something is appropriate for a woman isn't going to get us anywhere. aguing over what a girl will think in her mind might.

Wow! Each question is a topic unto itself! Personally, I have always seen women in the church as being unique individuals. What say we redefine the opening thread title and go from there? Rewrite the opening post so that respondants will have a context to run with. If you want it to be Faith/Belief, or if it is a behaviorist issue?

Hi brennakimi,
Just wanted to follow up with you on this PNT. I'm we couldn't get this out easily or quickly... but I hope the comments from myself and AdminPhat were helpful. Anyway, I wanted to check and see if you're interested in pursuing this PNT. Seems like the issue will come up again, so whether you start the discussion now or later, I think you'll have an opportunity either way. Thanks. Looks much much clearer to me.
Although your thread title has nothing to do with your post now... and it's not really a continuation thread anymore. I'd ask you to edit the post title, and consider deleting the link to the continuation. But if you think the link is still somehow relevant... you can keep it there. Once you edit the title, I'll copy it on out (without all this messy discussion) to the Coffee House! Thanks. Comments on moderation procedures (or wish to respond to admin messages)? - Go to:

i made the link more precise (as this thread is totally snarked from scraf) and changed the title mostly to be more amusing.

Posted this to Social Issues... forum. Figured even though the topic isn't a church issue per say... given the participants, I feel it will quickly go there. So... kind of a pre-emptive strike thing
Thanks for working through all those changes; have a fun time discussing! Comments on moderation procedures (or wish to respond to admin messages)? - Go to:
