Certainly, there is some imagery we are not going to allow, such as sexual pornography.
A while back, Lam had the following as his signature, he was posting a lot of messages, and displaying the signature with every message.

I forced him to change the signature (it involved a few hour suspension). This was not that I disagreed with it (I'm very anti-GWB), but that I found it's frequent display to be obnoxious. Also, signatures are perminent, short of editing individual messages. Avatars are not perminent - They will change at every message if the choice of avatar is changed.
My inclination is that Yaro's avatar was a proper thing, but now it's time to put it away.
