Do those taste good and where can you find them? I tried the Dagoba nibs. They are okay but not the same as chocolate. Very chewy, slightly bitter with a mild hint of chocolate flavor. It is obviously a matter of taste. I googled on "roasted cacao nibs" and got a lot of hits. If you can't find them locally you can mail order them. I don't think I'll be getting more. I ate about half the package I had and then gave them to someone who had more enthusiasm for them than I did. You could also get pure powdered coco and try various sweetners. Dagoba and Sharffen Berger are just two companies offering a range of organic cacoa and coco products. lfen

But why would I want to do those things?

Well, maybe you won't.
But most people end up with more and more responsibility in life as they get older. I'm just speculating, admittedly, but I'll bet you have a few years to go before you find out whether or not those things will be ultimately true for you or not.

quote: The Scharffenberger nibs are the best ones I've ever had, by far. It also helps their flavor, even if they are pre-roasted when you buy them, to gently toast them again in a dry skillet over medium heat. But I agree that they are no substitute for a good dark chocolate bar. You might also look for a brand called Plantation. They use an Ecuadorian heirloom cacao variety called "Arriba", and they have a wide range of "octane levels", including a 90% and 100% bar. (they don't use any vanilla) I really love the 90% chocolate a lot, especially alongside a bowl of raspberries or strawberries. Lastly, if you can find the sugar free chocolate from an Italian company called "Venchi", it is sweetened with maltitol which is used in many candies for diabetics. They use great quality cacao and I can't tell the difference between the sugar free and the regular chocolate. They have lots of different kinds. Both are available online from various sources.

Some possibilities: 1. it is part of your self-styled program of continuing education. 2. given current circumstances, this is as close as you can get to a social life. 3. a paucity of good converstation and worthy debators in your non-virtual social circle. 4. a desire to share knowledge and help others improve their understanding of science (or religion). 5. Its become a virtual addiction. My social life is overwhelming at times, living in a community where everyone knows everyone, no one knocks on doors, and my front door hasn't been locked in ten years. But #3 applies, because no one in our village is as knowledgeable about science as the people here except Stephen Fretwell, and we don't want to encourage the kind of religious debate he's been in in the past. So for me, it's often a way to test ideas I have in hostile waters. Other times, it's a way to try to help someone if I can in some small way. In fact, three of the people who live here at our village met us through this forum in particular!

Am I to understand you live in some sort of religiously-aligned community and that these people are other non-evolutionists who met you because you guys all came over here to try and defend the Faith? I doubt there would be people joining communities based on a common belief in evolutionary theory. I'll bet Percy never thought of his board being used as a potential recruiting ground for religious communities. Who'd a thunk.

Ez: I think you'll find TL is a very strong proponent of evolution.

Ooops. Had to edit this.
At first I thought you were talking about Percy (AdminTL). I am even more interested in hearing Truthlover's response, in that case. Edited by EZscience, : misinterpretation

I live in a Christian community with about 220 other people. 80-90% of the adults in the community used to be anti-evolutionist, I'd guess. We put a lot of stock in honesty, though, so when I suggested that the evidence for evolution had backed me into a corner, we discussed it on and off for a couple years. We probably have several holdouts even now, five years later, but for the most part, we've had a great time embracing evolution and seeing how God evolves everything, especially his people.
The person who came to our village off this board was already religious and Christian. A couple came with him. So we really only met one of the three on this board, but this board was the contact for the three of them. We're not your typical religious community. Our web site is at Error 404 (Not Found)!!1, and we only recruit those who are so drawn that they can't stay away. On the topic of why be on EVC: Tonight my wife and the couple who live with us are at a meeting to plan for our Harvestfest in September. It's our major festival of the year, and it's public, so we start working on it months in advance. I have six children, and the other couple has five. Three of the teenagers are off running intervals to prepare for a 5K in October (I'm the coach ). A couple are doing homework, and the rest are playing in the living room or their room, since it's getting dark here. It's a pretty relaxing atmosphere, compared to nights when lots of things are going on, and it seemed good to get online and have a pleasant conversation. In a sense, I like talking about us. I think we're unusual, so it doesn't seem wrong to like talking about us. But I also like to talk about us, because I want people to know that Christians can be honest and love what's true, not just what we wish were true. If Jesus is really the Truth, like we say, then we ought to be able to face facts, shouldn't we? We're putting that to the test, and we think the results are outstanding. So there is one sort of recruiting I want to do, which is to recruit other Christians to get past fear and love honesty so they can experience the same success and joy we're having. Also, so they quit offering evidence, by their behavior and speech, that the faith of Christ is just another useless--or worse, dangerous--superstition.

Sorry - thought I had posted an answer to this when I saw the bump.
Must have been a 'failure to post' that escaped my notice. Your community seems very pleasant, happy and friendly.I support everyone in their pursuit of a peaceful and happy living environment and you certainly seem to have found what you were looking for. I am always quite surprised when I meet people who are ardent christians (as opposed to the token kind) who also support and believe in evolutionary theory, although I suppose I shouldn't be.You are living proof that there is hope for reason from the christian side, although my outlook may have been colored by too many run-ins with Faith So do the adults in your community all commute to jobs in town, or is this like some self-sufficent commune where you farm and try to produce everything you need for yourselves? I guess I'm wondering how the community supports itself financially. {Note - This substring has gone to a better place. - Adminnemooseus} Edited by Adminnemooseus, : Note added above.
