regarding forelimbs you are probally right that a lion or tiger or even jaguar at equal weights would probally not have the strength in the forelimbs of a grizzly
hey guess wat i was watching a documentry and it said that the clouded leopard is the strongest cat lb for lb , i always thought the jaguar was the strongest, and it probally is but the clouded leopard is an immensly strong lb for lb cat

If I remember right, the clouded leopard is native to south America and has the longest fangs relative to the skull of any cat. It also is quite small compared to other big cats, if it is a big cat at all. But i'll have to do some more research before I can get it 100% (My smithsonian book should help)
Grizzlies and other bears have muscles that are thick throughout the entire limb, unlike the modern cats whose muscles taper off in the lower forelimb. That, combined with their short backs and cumbersome paws the bears have become unearthly strong, similar in build to Badgers. Grizzlies not only share these features, but also have a huge hump of muscle on their backs, which is used to add extra force in their forelimbs for striking and digging. Grizzlies often kill their prey with a blow of their paw (Smashing moose and elk spines is not unheared of)and the Sabretooth cat smilodon is said to have a similar build as a bear(the book I quoted from the swedish scientist). The Rhino also have a hump of muscle and flesh on their backs (like you stated earlier) which is used to support their massive skull. Their necks are no doubt immensly strong. But I do believe that when it comes to biteforce, Cats are stronger. And they have legs adapted enough to hurl them several meters (cougars and tigers, for example). And for Power, Cats in some ways may have more (Jaguars may produce far more power than any or bear the same size and weight) "The Nephilim where in the Earth in those days..." Genesis 6:4

The 3,000 lbs Croc might have been an exceptional case, or maybe exaggerated in the documentary that mentioned it (it dealt with Hippos, might have been "anatomy of a Hippo bite")either way they have been known to kill Crocs.
A Hippo will demolish even a huge Kodiak, let alone a Grizzly. The size and strength advantage goes to the Hippo. "The Nephilim where in the Earth in those days..." Genesis 6:4

Definitely. Indeed, there was a Bear like omnivore called Sarkastodon which looked a little like a giant bear/wolverine. It was large and strong enough to take Elephants, and was probably in the 2,200-3,000 + lbs range. Here is a link to read more:
Sarkastodon - Wikipedia Also check page 213 of "The Simon & Schuster Encyclopedia of Dinosaurs & Prehistoric Creatures. Great picture and size comparison to a man. Better than the pic the wiki article makes available. Sarkastodon was very much like a Bear and had teeth similar to a Grizzly, but it was not related to bears or Wolverines. It belonged to an ancient family of Mammals called Creodonts. "The Nephilim where in the Earth in those days..." Genesis 6:4

great info but i would expect that that animal was over 4000lbs because a 2200lb animal would get demolished by an elephant

yes you are correct clouded leopards do have the largest teeth relative to their size of all the cats, and they are certaintly not big cats, they are classified as 30-45lbs medium sized cats. For their size they are extremely powerful for their size and may even be propotionally stronger than a jaguar but i dont know. Anyway your right about the forelimbs of a grizzly the shoulder hump is a mass of muscle that enables them to break a cows back with one swipe no cat can compare

also your web site says the sarkastodon is EXPECTED to be able to kill mature elephants, it never says it did kill elephants, it says its predicted that it could, because no elephants have ever lived in south america, so it would never coexctict with elephants, so its just a prediction.
anyway that predator would have been an imposing site and i wish it wasnt exctinct

Sarkastodon didn't live in South America but asia (the website shows that it's fossils have been found in mongolia). They didn't live with huge elephants but with Brontotheres, which where huge rhino-like mammals, as well as with the monsterous wolf-like Andrewsarchus, which was possibly even bigger.
I wish I could see one today in a Zoo or the wild as well. "The Nephilim where in the Earth in those days..." Genesis 6:4

Now when it comes to collarbones, I dont know if Dale miquelle is saying that reduced clavicles reduce power or strength, though either way there is a problem. Humans have very large clavicles compared to cats.
Here is a link showing human collarbones Clavicle - Wikipedia and this is a sight that shows the whole feline skeletal system, including clavicles. They are so small you have to look closely to find them. File Not Found | University of Guelph If this doesn't work, this is a link to the picture it'self File Not Found | University of Guelph or you can just put "Cat+skeleton" in Google image search and look at the first few skeletons. You can also look for Gorilla skeletons on the image search, and notice their clavicles, which are far larger than a cats or a bears. If reduced clavicles reduced overall strength, then that means that humans are stronger than big cats or bears weight for weight, which is wrong. "The Nephilim where in the Earth in those days..." THis site shows that Gorilla strength has never been studied, but that estimates of 10-27 times stronger than a human being has been put forth. They may not be as strong as they look, but they are much stronger than humans:

This site shows that Gorillas can beat 6 full grown men in a tug of war match (you have to interact with it a bit. It also states that Gorilla's arms are stronger than the legs of the strongest men. Is a children's site, but it uses Zoobooks for it's info, which is pretty darn good.
Page not found - NWF | Ranger Rick This site shows that Gorillas have the strength of 4-8 Strong men (picture 4-8 400+ lb powerlifters or 4-8 late Andre the Giants) http://www.sfzoo.org/cgi-bin/animals.py?ID=31 Edited by LudoRephaim, : No reason given. Here are some pics of Gorilla and other mammal skeletons, so we can see how strongly built their bones and skeletal system really are:

Brown Bear

Now compare the tigers gracile skeletal system with that of a Smilodon:
and see how the animal is pictured here, and notice the bear like body build:
