I've been wondering how you guys know when who is going to be Moderator and at what times? How do you guys divvy up the time?
IOW, when does Nosy Ned become AdminNosy, and when does NWR become AdminNWR? How is it that there is always a moderator available 24-7?
Was my question eloquent? Did I elaborate on what I meant?
Anyway, I've just been wondering how that all happens. I thought I'd ask.

It's all an organized conspiracy, managed in the smoke filled rooms
Actually, there isn't much involved here. We are all potentially moderating whenever logged in. But we try to avoid moderating in a thread where we are heavily engaged in debating (to avoid any appearance of bias).
If we have disagreements, we discuss them in the back room (the private forum visible only to moderators and admins). But there isn't much disagreement. It is usually pretty obvious when a thread is going off-track, so we try to nudge it back, without being too heavy-handed.

Percy and Moose sometimes pick people from different time zones to help ensure there is a good time coverage. There's quite a lot of moderators, though some are not as active as others. You'll notice some moderators get involved more than others. I can usually cover eight hours on most days, by having it in the background at work.

Q&A
It's all an organized conspiracy, managed in the smoke filled rooms
I knew it!!! Damn Illuminati! I see they've managed to penetrate this forum too.
Yeah, it just seems that there is always a Moderator present, which led me to wonder how you all delegate who is going to be on at what hour. For instance, lets suppose somebody invites you out to dinner or a movie and you courteously say, "Sorry but I'm Admin tonight on EvC. Sorry dude." And since I've only seen about, oh I don't know, maybe 20 Mods, I thought that ensuring authority was always present might be a little difficult.
I also didn't take into conisderation what Modulous explained, which is we live all over the world in different time zones. I'm sure that helps to keep a healthy level of Admins available morning, noon, and night.
Anyway, thanks for the explanation. Now we can continue arguing.

Re: Q&A
Actually, NJ, we have a large range of covert ops running around the clock. Sundry undercover mods, unpaid spies and tattle-tales all beavering away to make your stay an--um--interesting one.
