quote: Riding a motorcycle whilst stoned and drunk is not rational. Yet I did it. And it taught me things that rational couldn't
What did it teach you that rational couldn't? quote: How amazingly far you can lean a motorcycle over without slinging it down the road, for one. And how much further than amazingly far you should not go.
Actually, "rational" can teach you these things if you care to pay attention.

Also.....
I had to stop responding to this line of thought on the basis that the admins deemed it off topic in that particular thread. But...... I would ask whether the same whim that might lead you to motorcycle stoned and drunk, party for three days straight on X and acid (I never got on well with weed), have unprotected sex with a host of partners or any other irrational and potentially dangerous action - whether this sort of whim is something that you should follow as regards your whole life outlook, sense of morality and grasp of life and it's posible meaning. Personally I would have thought that was worth a bit more consideration. But if Iano is saying that it is on this sort of irrational whim that he decided his whole personal philosophy and meaning of being then at least I can more readily understand how he came to the indefensible position he has Edited by Straggler, : No reason given. How about a topic title edit?
If you have some longer term theme for this topic, that theme should be defined by the topic title. Hopefully, any new topic should be worth more than just a few messages, but as presented, this one is headed for a quick closure. How about an addition of futher theme information, at the topic title? I could make the modification myself, but it would be nice if people could do quality topic titles on there own (and there are plenty of bad topic titles out there). I would also like to see admins NOT promote proposed topics if the topic title sucks. Adminnemooseus {Note by edit: Original title is/was "Short answer for Iano".} Edited by Adminnemooseus, : See above.

Re: How about a topic title edit?
What is the Theory of Evolution rationality for people (or animals for that matter) doing things that are not only irrational but dangerous and even life threatening with no appearant gain to species survivability? Is it a method of weeding out the weak(minded)? Is it some benefit to the species (and the survival of its genome) if some subset of its members are high risk takers, perhaps helping to define and expand the limits of its survivable behavior? I'm really just trying to shift this into a debatable gear, but I think these are interesting and important questions for evolutionary theory. -------------------------------- Question: What's the difference between a Harley and a Hoover? Answer: The position of the dirtbag.

Re: How about a topic title edit?
If poor Iano had not survived that night, it might have looked like a clear cut case of natural selection at work. (That is, if he had no children) But I personally wonder how much of a person's personality is really due to genetics. Yes, the old Nature vs Nurture question. And I believe it should be defined a bit before any debate can really continue. If it's genetics, then it could serve as quote: a method of weeding out the weak(minded)
. It can also be argued that recklessness is an attractive feature for some people to have. The classic (and sexist) stereotype is the brave man charging into dangerous situations to win the praise of a girl. Right? I'm not saying that specifically riding a motorcycle drunk and high will win girls, but that general no-fear(and no brains) attitude can.

the difference between two drugs
stoned is when you are high, generally from the effects of weed. I've never heard of a drunk person being called stoned due to the alcohol. I've heard smashed, drunk, hungover (the day after), but never stoned. so not really redudnant, just not a smooth move--two depressants at once, ouch.

Going to close this one down, pending a theme being declared
To get it reopened, chose and go to the correct topic of those listed below. Schraf (aka AdminSchraf) can and may reopen this sucker, if she wishes. Adminnemooseus Edited by Adminnemooseus, : Fixed subtitle.
