Here. It's the first aquatic gilled mushroom ever discovered. Psathyrella aquatica, found in the Rogue River, Oregon.
(I wonder if it's the same Created Kind as the rest of the Psathyrella genus.) Edited by Dr Adequate, : No reason given.

Cool. I wonder if they're psychoactive. Have their been any studies done on stoned fishies at that site?

Bizarre
That's pretty cool. I'm definitely interested in seeing if they manage to propagate submerged. I can get the same bubbling on my own aquatic plants (pearling) by injecting CO2 into the water column. Not that mushrooms are the same as plants, but the effect looks the same.

Weird
What a strange little thing that it! I'm going to have to check out the link and dig around, just to satisfy my curiosity. As an aside, the topic title mut be in the running for the award for funniest, most interesting and downright peculiar topic title of the year. Every time I see it I start to giggle. I had absolutely no idea that you had a yearning for the discovery of underwater mushrooms Dr Adequate, I think you should change your name to that. My husband was reading over my shoulder and when he saw the title of the topic he backed away with a rather scared look on his face.

Re: Bizarre
Personally, I'd like to know how they propagate submerged. Wouldn't all the dihydrogen monoxide hinder the spores' ability to do what they do?

I had absolutely no idea that you had a yearning for the discovery of underwater mushrooms. Nor did I, until I read about them. Then I realised that they fulfilled some deap-seated need. I also learned this week what cilliates do instead of sex. Nature is way cool.

Re: Bizarre
And how could they propagate upstream? Seems to me the spores can only travel downstream unless there's some kind of carrier involved.
