Resolution settings
You should be able to set the graphics to 1440x900 @60hz.
Try "display properties" -> "advanced" -> "adapter" -> "list all modes". If you don't see 1440x900, then put it on the highest you can.

A little further down that page is a link to a possible driver fix. I'm not vouching for this stuff though... it's just what I found by google searching your problem.

Might update your graphics card at some point as well.... I use a Nvidia GEforce 8800 GTX which runs Skyrim and such quite nicely in widescreen... and I see them on ebay now for like 25 ($40-$50). You'd want to be sure it will work/fit in that machine of course.
