If you're against a God preventing evil... are you also against yourself preventing evil? Are you against preventing evil of any kind, at all times? I'm having a hard time aligning such an idea of "not wanting God to prevent evil" and also "being a good person" in anyway. But, of course, this is not the place for such a discussion.I've revived another thread if you care to take it over there: God is evil if He has miracles and does not use them.Message 39

What's the difference between you preventing evil and a God preventing evil? If you're against a God preventing evil... are you also against yourself preventing evil? Are you against preventing evil of any kind, at all times? The former is a human effort and learning experience while I can see no human advantage to the later, simply oppression. I am not against humans trying to prevent evil or mitigate any ill effects. I am most definitely not against preventing evil of any kind at all times, but I am also most definitely not in favor of it.Anyone so limited that they can only spell a word one way is severely handicapped!

...while I can see no human advantage to the later, simply oppression. You see no human advantage to when a human life is protected? I can understand if you personally weigh "learning experience" over "protecting innocent people"... that's your call. But saying that a God protecting innocent people is simply oppression with no human advantage... that's just cold.

Which is what I suspect, if God does in fact exist and is all-powerfull. He just doesn't care enough to prevent the evil. He might care about evil, but just not as much as he cares about Free Will. Or maybe his isn't exactly ALL-powerful... Without evil, can you really have good? Wouldn't it all just be a bunch of meh? Then, why even bother with the whole Earth thing... just send us all straight to heaven.

So many possible answers.Plus, with God being God, He may have some answer that we aren't even capable of uncovering on our own. Hence, my question. If God does exist and I'm ever able to meet Him, I would just like to know exactly where He stands on this one.

That's an old joke: Why are you hitting yourself with that hammer? Because it feels so good when I stop. Without evil, can you really have good? Wouldn't it all just be a bunch of meh? I think a lot of people would prefer the meh - i.e. not hitting themselves with the hammer, even if they'll never know the pleasure of stopping.

How the hell did you put up with someone like Paul or Calvin or Luther? The same way that I have put up with you.
When's the BBQ and Low Country Boil? As soon as you organize it! Where can I get a good pint of bitter? If you hang around here long enough, you will find that our Spirit is much better than any spirits that you drink. Chance as a real force is a myth. It has no basis in reality and no place in scientific inquiry. Dont forget to tell them about me. If necessary, use words.

Without evil, can you really have good? Wouldn't it all just be a bunch of meh? We may never know. I would imagine, however, that a day without evil couldn't help but be more than simply a meh type of day. Chance as a real force is a myth. What's the difference between you preventing evil and a God preventing evil? jar writes: Does this mean that you see no human advantage---in general---with God doing things for us? Apparently you strongly believe that by humans being responsible and learning to solve problems, progress is made but by allowing, hoping, praying and waiting for God to help us doesn't really help us. The former is a human effort and learning experience while I can see no human advantage to the latter, simply oppression. You say that I prefer a God who favors Phat. Not quite. I prefer a God who favors humanity. Perhaps I grew up with the idea that a parent who favors(dare I say spoils) their children is preferred over a cold one who boots the birds out of the nest and says sink or swim. Many human ideas about God are a reflection of what we believe and expected from our parents and families. Chance as a real force is a myth.
