Well, I'm glad you asked that Mr. Leever. Yes, indirectly, it's one of the most critical equations in rocket science. It typically expressed as the nozzle exit plane ratio to the thrust chamber diameter...maximum efficiency at sea-level AND in a vacuum....both are in terms of diameter, but neither have a darn thing to do with tree rings, elbows or the "impoverishly rounded objects" that rockets are designed to travel to.

It is, along with weight...MDOT is how you derive ISP (Specific impulse) required for a given mass for a given distance at optimum efficiency (gas mileage (they hate it when I call it that).
