if you didn't see it, try to catch tonight's episode of Boston Legal.
the argument is that, as most abstinence only programs (including the one i was taught with) lie and inform students that condoms do not work and to use them is worse than to waste your time, that schools are being negligent--potentially even criminally negligent--in using them. i don't necessarily think that the solution is to pay damages to every student who contracted an incurable disease as a result of these programs, but i do agree that their instruction should amount at least to manslaughter. the goal is not to imprison teachers, but rather to eliminate the conditions on funding associated with this religious training and to stop lying to children and killing them.

another interesting stat (if only I could find it).
One of the few abstinence only programs taught in Colorado high schools (Lafayette, Longmont, or Louisville, not sure which) also has the highest percentage of teenage pregnancy in the state.
the argument you present them as giving is interesting nonetheless. It's yet another reason why abstinence only education is bunk (and BS).

as of 2006, 39.5 million people had aids. i can't find a more up-to-date number, but they quoted like 65 million, which i can only hope was an exaggeration, but i know it's probably not even a large enough number considering most muslim countries are slow to report on aids numbers.
the simple fact is that right now the only realistic weapons we have are condoms and they can literally save your life. to teach anything about them but that simple truth is to lie and to conspire to commit murder. teach abstinence, by all means, but don't teach lies about the *rest* of sex education.

The title is accurate
I really admired your topic title because abstinence really is only on tv.
And that is the critical flaw in Abstinence Only programs.

They quoted the total number of people who have contracted the virus, which includes the 25 million that have already died as a result of it.
