I lack the courage to read the whole thread that Percy linked to, but the point is moot anyway: the apparent "quantization" of red shifts was just an artifact of limited sample size. Hawkins, et al.,
Mon. Not. R. Astron. Soc.6 Aug 2002, online (once upon a time, anyway) at
http://arxiv.org/PS_cache/astro-ph/pdf/0208/0208117.pdfsurveyed 1647 quasar/galaxy pairs and found "no evidence for a periodicity at the predicted frequency in log(1+z), or at any other frequency."
Like the "solar neutrino problem" - better data = less confusion.
Edit to add:
http://www.badastronomy.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?topic=411...has a discussion of this with real astronomers contributing.
