It may be time for AOL and Yahoo to become even less significant in the internet world ...
AOL and Yahoo put price on e-mail (click)
"America Online and Yahoo, two of the world's largest providers of e-mail accounts, are about to start using a system that gives preferential treatment to messages from companies that pay from a quarter of a cent to 1 cent each to have them delivered. The Internet companies say this will help them identify legitimate mail and cut down on junk e-mail, identity-theft scams and other scourges of users of their services.
Paying senders will be assured that their messages will be delivered to AOL users' main inboxes and marked as "AOL Certified E-Mail." Unpaid messages will be subject to AOL's spam-filtering process, which diverts suspicious messages to a special spam folder.
Most unpaid messages also will not be displayed with their original images and links."
They are going to alter unpaid messages???
That's a good enough reason to stop using either service eh?
Enjoy.

I'm not sure $2,500 is going to massively put off the major spammers from sending a million emails...I could be wrong though.

that's part of my problem too -- the spammers will pay the costs and now the spam will be delivered complete whether you want it or not, but your aunt petunia's e-mail with photos of the new grandkids won't?
somebody is NOT thinking.

The effect might be to speed up the defection of AOL subscribers.
Maybe that's a good thing.

Agreed. AOL is useless inh(ysa)o and should be dead. Should have died when bought by TimeWarner.
