Re: The 'Suggestions to Proposed New Topics' forum - Possible change in structure

Currently the "Suggestions to Proposed New Topics" forum is open to topic starting and message posting by admins and moderators only. I would like to also add some other "designated topic reviewers", but there are none such yet.The reason for the above stated format, was to keep the topics under control. They are to review the quality of opening messages and titles of the proposed topics, not to debate the topics. As such, I felt the need to restrict participation, so that the topics wouldn't be flooded by self-appointed topic reviewers etc. I still feel this way.I would, however, like to open the forum to permit replies to critiques by the proposed topic originator. This would require that the forum be opened to all members.BUT I DO NOT WANT OTHER THAN DESIGNATED TOPIC REVIEWERS AND TOPIC PROPOSERS TO BE POSTING IN THIS FORUM.In other words, if you are not a designated topic reviewer, and are not responding to something related to a topic you proposed, you do not post in this forum.Can it work?Comments please.Adminnemooseus[This message has been edited by Adminnemooseus, 04-27-2004]

It seems to me it'd be easier to trust the relatively small group of authors of pending topics than it would be to trust the general board population. Is there a way you could simply make each author a temporary topic reviewer? Once the topic has been formally rejected or moved to a public forum the reviewer status could be removed.I suppose this might create too much work for the moderators, so just consider it a minor thought.

Word.This whole new topic thing is just way out of control. If the plan was to discourage participation, especially by new people, and promote the tendancy for topics to spin wildly out of control, mission accomplished.

I tend to agree with you, though I don't think the new topic control measures are entirely to blame for the spinning out of control thing. Most of that spinning was caused by des, bless her heart; if anything, the new measures prevented her from going even more crazy by creating a bunch of new, pointless topics.That said, I would have preferred that topic creation privileges be given to all new members by default. Those that misbehave could simply have a topic creation restriction placed upon them.

Please repost message at How do you all feel about the new posting rules?.It is valid input, but I'd rather it be at the above cited.Adminnemooseus
