I don't know about anyone else but the whole "great debate" seems absolutely insane - if not redundant. By redundant I mean from the aspect of scientific insight/theory/fact. Why do creationists bother? Why is this still an on-going debate? We know where we came from and we have the science to prove it (not in totality, but certainly close). There is just SO much that we can prove that takes God(s) out of the equation. I know I should state a bit of the proof and reference it, etc. etc. but I'm not going to for reason of time and effort, which is why I'm in the coffee house to begin with...
So, the question perpetually remains: why?
Even though Genesis has now been proven wrong 'they' still believe. The inspired word of God is proven wrong and they still go on... Why?? I guess because it's no longer a matter of proof. It must be because God is no longer "out there", it's "in here" *pointing to self* and a personal God cannot be proved wrong. Thus, God remains, and science in a way is denied - who knows.
I don't expect to understand creationists (I was once one, and I didn't even understand myself!) but I think that God really is a stumbling block himself, blinding you from the truth - hence my name.

GOD is not the stumbling block, belief is.

Mission,
There are quite a few questions that science doesn't even approach. These include right/wrong, an afterlife, the reason for being, etc. These are the questions that are answered through philosophy, religion, and introspection. In other words, there is a place for religion, just not in science.
The way I see it, creationists have pinned their faith on the inerrancy of the Genesis account. It is not that it has been proven wrong, but that it CAN'T be proven wrong since their faith hinges on it. Sticking fingers in ears and mumbling "lalalalala" is really what creationism is about. The only hope that I have is in showing creationists that current scientific findings are not meant to challenge their faith, but rather an attempt to reflect what we see in nature irregardless of religious presuppositions. Some creationists see this as an affront (how COULD you exclude God!!) and some see it as what it is, an honest look at the world around us. The latter are few and far between, but you do occasionaly run into them. Truthlover and True Creation are two users here that finally hit that wall, or at least appreciate the candor found within the sciences.

I agree
I understand there is a place for religion when it comes to right and wrong, however, there is a place for right and wrong when it comes to evolutionary thought as well. Of course a creationist won't want to appreciate that, but, what can you do.
