I'm just wondering whether anyone has ever been persuaded to change their mind from evolution to creationism, or creationism to evolution by coming here?

Well, a guy named Delshad was once a creationist, but he switched sides after some productive discussion here.

Hi Andya,
Did Delshad really "switch sides"? I remember he came on here more-or-less guns blazing, and ended by agreeing that some of us had good points, but did he really change is mind from creationist to evolutionist? If so, that's pretty cool.

I have not had anyone change my mind about evolution/creation, but I have had my mind changed about Biblical messages.
Rrhain just this week has convinced me that all references to homosexuality in the Bible, are specified to acts with male prostitutes. I knew some were, but not that all were. The most asinine part of the evolution/creation debate is that (my experience here) that even when creationists are granted large leeway to make their argument, they suddenly cut and run. It's as if all they wanted to do is complain that evos won't listen, and start with a half ass argument anyone with common sense can see problems with. Then you say, okay well let's say that's true, then what about this that follows from that? Whoosh they are gone. Did they not think past the first argument? Looks like it to me. If anything I have lost all respect for creationists and--- especially--- IDIOT Theorists (which stands for Intelligent Design and Inferred Organic Teleology). ------------------holmes

It seems that TrueCreation has made the transition from a well defined YEC (Young Earth Creationist) position, to some highly muddled version of OECism (Old Earth Creationism).

I didn't switch here, but I was converted away from Young Earth Creationism on the CompuServe Religious forum in 1994.

In part thanks to this debate, I have learned that the problems with literal interpretation of Genesis run deeper than I had previously imagined. I would like to thank the Bible buffs here, on both sides of the debate, whose challenges and insights have strengthened my conviction. Yep. I've become more skeptical. But, at the same time, my respect for the holy script has increased.
Thanks to the the reactions of our opponents I have learned where hot buttons may be found and how to activate some of the ejection seats. Thanks to our colleagues I am learning how to smile politely while quietly adjusting the timer on my "bomb." But it's rarely that dramatic. Usually it's the Johnny Appleseed approach. Planting thoughts. Swatting flies. db

--Yes. I don't know exactly when, but probably about after the first 8-14 months on the board I altered my POV from a Young Earth Creationist to something of which I have no term. Basically I am a "creationist" who really doesn't claim to know, or ascribe, to a certain age of the earth. Though from my scientific studies I think the earth could be no younger than a couple hundred thousand years, probably a few My(but that is just ambiguous speculation on my part). The earth may very well be 4.6 By, and a global flood as given in genesis may never have occured. I am merely 17 and have my life to engage in studies and uncover the veracity of a global flood and a younger earth than given in uniformitarian geology. The alteration in my POV while being influenced very much by my many discussions in this forum has also been influenced greatly by my independent research in geology and various geosciences. --Sorry, this is a TC post, forgot to turn of admin-mode. I don't think a website like this one is supposed to change anyone's mind. However, I'll admit that I was once a hardline atheist who felt that science supported my views. Nowadays I'm more realistic about what science can and cannot tell us. I'm no believer, but I understand the inability of science to solve our philosophical problems.
Science isn't here to make us feel good. If it doesn't back up our cherished little beliefs (whether they involve a Big Magic Guy, the absence of one, or the racial superiority of our particular group), then we either have to hold these beliefs on faith or discard them. I've really enjoyed my participation on this site, and I've already learned a lot from the many intelligent folks who post here. I agree with holmes, though, that not everyone is here to learn. I wish there were some way to distinguish people who really want to educate themselves from those who are just after attention, because usually we find out after too much time and effort has been wasted trying to engage them. ------------------En la tierra de ciegos, el tuerto es el Rey.

No. I support "evolutionism" and haven't felt drawn to creationism after reading all these discussions. This place has, however, opened my eyes in terms of learning lots of new things, information, links to deeply researched studies on various topics, civil people, etc.
I feel glad for having happed upon this little place! ------------------

I'll tell you what it's done for me - turned me into an unstoppable juggernaut of rhetorical precision when I argue with people I know. It's like I'm training at the dojo or something. I'm a Knowledge Kninja!

I'd love to hear Rrhain's argument for that. I dont think it holds any ground though. As for the question, nope, not been converted and I wont be, however in general the quality of conversation had been pretty good and informing. [This message has been edited by Zealot, 09-09-2003]

Zealot,
You continually display the open-mindedness and thirst for knowledge that we have come to expect from fundamentalists. In thread after thread you have put forth arguments ranging from the well-worn to the utterly bizarre in a transparent attempt to disprove a well-supported scientific theory you barely understand. Now you want to hear Rrhain's theory concerning the Bible's references to homosexuality. However, you state that you doubt it's valid before you've even heard it!!! Thanks for your contributions to our discussions here. ------------------I would not let the chickens cross the antidote road because I was already hospitlized for trying to say this!-Brad McFall
