Re: dan, dan, dan!
Did you hear the idea is to do a trilogy of Serenity movies?
They killed the two characters I was really interested in. By the end of the third, who's gonna be left?

Re: dan, dan, dan!
Aw, missed you too, Schraf!
Yeah, the worst part was that I had just loaned a friend of mine all of Firefly the previous week so she could prep for the movie, and we walked into the theater with her talking about what an enormous crush she'd developed on Wash.
She did not walk out of the theater a happy woman.
But the blast doors opening to show River standing on a pile of dead Reavers is pretty much my new favorte movie moment in the history of ever.

Re: dan, dan, dan!
Yep. all of the actors are signed for all three movies.
All of the actors.
they don't call Whedon The Flashback King for nothin'.
I really hope the DVD sales help make up the not-so-great sales at the box office, although we'll see how it does worldwide.
I REALLY want the next three to be made, although wat I really really want is for the TV series to get picked up again.

Re: dan, dan, dan!
When wash was killed, I sat there with my mouth open for at least 5 minutes.
I literally didn't really absorb the action on the screen for those 5 minutes because I was in such shock.
I honestly had a hard time wrapping my mind around what I had just seen. I was desperately thinking stupid thoughts like "It's OK, he'll survive somehow! He's not really dead, is he? He didn't just die. Wash didn't just DIE!!!"
I had a crush on him too, who wouldn't?
Whedon is a mad genious with huge brass balls that I admire and hate at the same time.
In an era of formulaic Hollywood pap being heralded as "great cinema", he, um, went against that formula.
When was the last time I was honestly shocked and surprised and really upset by the death of a character in a film, and wasn't placated by some "reason" for them to die that made sense?
How about never before?

Re: dan, dan, dan!
Last time for me wasn't in a film. It was Tara from Buffy. (Not to mention Joyce and Jenny.)
But yeah, Wash took me severely by surprise. Especially since I had only been expecting one death (although my money was on Simon) and one death had already happened.

spoiler alerts
You know all of you guys discussing the movie could have mentioned you were going to spoil surprises.
Now what little reason I had to see the movie just vanished.

Re: spoiler alerts
Gee, you had shown such disdain for Whedon's work I just assumed that you would never lower yourself to see a movie featuring such cliched characters and themes, holmes, so I don't know why you are upset.
But for everyone else who might not have seen Serenity yet, I'll put a spoiler alert in the thread title.

Re: spoiler alerts
You are right that I dislike Whedon and was not a fan of Firefly. However I usually give everything a shot, and the movies might have allowed a greater clarity than a tv show.
I did have hope for the show, it just wasn't fulfilled.

I'd actually recommend that you see it. It was way better than the show, and you'll remember that I largely shared your opinion of the series.
The writing was a lot better in the movie, everything felt a lot less corny. And they seemed to move away from the "horse opera in space" feel, where it seemed like they were just taking plots from Bonanza and adding laser SFX to the gun fights.
Spoilers, bah. If you can watch Romeo and Juliet and enjoy it, even though they "spoil" the whole business in the very first lines, you can enjoy this movie.

I hope you have a good time. It shouldn't be the worst movie you blow 8 bucks on this year.
