Problems with Search
I don't know if this is a bug or just my inability to comprehend what's required for a Search. I keep having this problem: I type in a word or phrase (with double quotes around it) that I'm pretty sure is in the posts I want to find, and also put in the name of the member who posted it, often my own name since I'm trying to find old posts of mine.
Often, although I KNOW the word was in some of my posts I get no hits at all. Other times I get a list of hits but only a few of them actually contain the word or phrase I'm looking for, and the others as far as I can tell bear no relation to it whatever.
The last one I did was "4500 years" with "Faith." Got some hits and many of them didn't have the phrase in them. What am I not understanding here?

Re: Problems with Search
I've experienced the same problems. I couldn't find that old post of mine about the chickens. When I simply browsed through pages and pages of old posts of mine, I finally found it. It contained the exact search phrases I had tried.
This is definitely a bug, and not a misunderstanding on your part.

Re: Problems with Search
Thank you! That reminds me that I too had looked for your story about the chickens when I brought it up the other day. You'd think "chickens" would have done it, maybe more than done it, but not a single hit. Thanks for the reminder.
By the way, what is the URL for that story? I'd like to read it again.

Re: Problems with Search
Here it is. I had to look for it again, because I am rather rigorous about clearing out my browsing history. In the end I had to resort to google, can you imagine?

Re: Problems with Search
Here it is.
That's a coffee house thread.
I didn't manage to find the reference, but I seem to recall that Percy had to turn off indexing of the Coffee House because it was taking too long and causing the board to hang.
In the end I had to resort to google, ..
There's nothing wrong with using google to search evcforum.

You might be right, I just tried to find a very old, non-Coffee House post of mine, and it was duly found.
Shame though, because the Coffee House posts are sometimes very worthwhile trying to find.

Re: Problems with Search
Once we transition the threads to a real database that should get easier. Hopefully by next year folk.

The address of the site is "", not "". Seems to work fine for me using the site's proper address.

Re: Thread acting funny
What does that have to do with anything I said?
I am having a specific problem replying to a specific thread. I think someone else in the thread had a problem also.
It happens everytime I reply to that thread only.

Re: Thread acting funny
I wish I could explain why accessing the site with "" works, but I can't. I'm sure others can.
However, one thing I can tell you is that if you begin accessing the site using "", then all links on that page will be "". This is because every page is dynamically constructed on the fly when you click on a link, and the top-level address of the site is filled in using the address that you used to access it.
