Re: can one of you make this guy stop?
Hi, Arach, try Nighttrain`s Ten Ironclad Rules of Communication Rule 1. Never debate a fool or a fanatic Rules 2-10. Refer to Rule 1.:-P

Admins
Referees often take stick during (and after) a game, but try running a competition without them. In the market-place of ideas presented here, someone has to blow the whistle.I salute the admins for their unpaid perseverence with a bunch of ego-trippers (me, included). If I get warned or suspended, so be it. I accept that in the spirit of EVC. If you feel you are facing continuing bias from an admin/admins, there`s at least two alternatives. Disappear slowly into the sunset, or step up to the base, offer your services as an admin, and face the heat.

Re: Another Opinion on Scientific Discussion with Creationists
Hi, Percy. I think the basic rule for discussing ANY subject, is that you should have a rudimentary knowledge of it. Otherwise, read up or lurk till you can contribute. Far too often do we see members give of their time and expertise only to be told they`re deluded or wrongly interpreting the facts. If these challengers insist on dropping back to kindergarten level, buzz them off. If they have a genuine challenge, lay it out upfront, and not waste everyone`s time debating a half-assed hypothesis. I keep my posts short because I can`t be bothered laying out a lengthy discourse, only to see it dismissed by someone who never got past the first few lines. Too many people here with good information to impart to waste time on agenda-driven twerps.

Re: thread reopen request
Every good admin has to have a strong set of admin pet peeves
Hi,AB. To avoid flagellation descending from unsuspected directions, any chance we could see a list of Admins X Pet Peeves? That way we can know who to suck up to and who to dodge.

Re: thread reopen request
I guess the majority of offences fall under either 'adhomming' or wandering off topic. While I prefer the rapier to a blunt block of wood, a lot of ad homs have a beauty of their own, and if the recipient applauded the mastery of English instead of taking it to heart, we mightn`t degenerate into a reprimand. And while the ideal thread would go from A to B, should off topic comments be chastised when gems are being dropped into the convo? Such a fine balancing act demanded of our admins.May they err on the side of creativity.:-P

Re: The RAZD suspension - how long?
Right on, Ohnhai. I think of Razzy as a 'Defender of the Turf' rather than breaking guidelines. When fly-bys pop in and start bad-mouthing all and sundry, normal manners go on hold till the pest either pulls himself/herself into line, or moves on. Totally different scenario to debates getting heated.

Re: Can't we just lighten up?
On the other hand, one can be too anal about this, too. Why can't we just accept that at times the topic of the thread has changed and live with it? Why can't a thead support two or three different discussions if they remain somewhat coherent and are more or less related? You mean we go ToE? (Thread offering Evolution). Should provide plenty of them missing transitional fossils.:-p

Re: Mick's well justified complaints from elsewhere
Suspending the venerable Crash? Why that`s like locking Grandpa in his room because he keeps peeing on the floor.

Froggie
Is Crash still suspended, or is he taking a break?
