It's inadvertently Monty-Pythonesque. What does that mean?

That really is too funny. I also think it really misses what the message of Jesus life was. I believe he was telling us we need to strive for that minimal standard now, while we live. To think it will only happen after death makes the whole message of Jesus life somewhat of a sad joke.

if your inaction in this case is a concious decision then you are certainly deciding to let yourself be saved. Your decision results in you being saved. Not necessarily so Crevo me old flower. I gave an analogy a while back which you might have missed. That of a bike gearbox. You can put it into gear and drive away from God. Or God can put it into neutral and pull you back to him. He puts it into neutral and pulls (you will be saved) or you can kick it back into gear and drive off (you will be lost) You do nothing at all to contribute to your salvation - except not reject it.You could be forgiven for feeling a little smug for making this decision if you believe it was the right one. iano writes:
So you are returning to a view now where God does not flip everyone's gearbox into neutral? not everyone is present with salvation?
Or God can put it into neutral

It's inadvertently Monty-Pythonesque. quote: It means, "in the style of Monty Python". From the wiki.
Monty Python, or The Pythons, is the collective name of the creators of Monty Python's Flying Circus, a British television comedy sketch show that first aired on the BBC on October 5, 1969. A total of 45 episodes were made over four series. However, the Python phenomenon was much greater, spawning stage tours, a musical, four films, numerous albums, and several books, as well as launching the members to individual stardom. The television series, broadcast by the BBC from 1969 to 1974, was conceived, written and performed by Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin. Loosely structured as a sketch show, but with a highly innovative stream-of-consciousness approach (aided by Terry Gilliam's animations), it pushed the boundaries of what was then considered acceptable, both in terms of style and content. The group's influence upon comedy has been compared to that which The Beatles had on music (George Harrison regarded them as taking over where The Beatles left off and in fact became friendly with the cast). Their influence on the British comedic spectrum has been apparent for years, while in America it is especially evident in more recent absurdist trends in television comedy. Robin, I just want to say that if it is really true that you don't know about Monty Python, I am terribly sad for you. Edited by schrafinator, : No reason given.

robin,
The Monty Python were to modern comedy what Jesus was to Christianity. I strongly recommend you watch their film 'Life of Brian' one of the best satires ever made . It cuts on so many levels. "In life, you have to face that some days you'll be the pigeon and some days you'll be the statue."

Well, there's a vague answer if I ever heard one. If "Life of Brian" is about the Brian who posts here, I might be interested. I get the impression that he's a football hooligan and an atheist priest, who grabs life by the balls. Might be interesting. Edited by robinrohan, : No reason given.

I'm attempting to give the benefit of the doubt. To express Christian love. To judge not.
All that glitters as arrogant as hell is not gold...a fact I try so often to convince others of...

Adam and Eve had automatics, since the fall however, we've been relegated to changing our own gears. What's the point of a gearbox if it's always in neutral? When we get drunk(on jesus) god offers to take the keys. and drives you home...you can of course refuse, but you risk being breathlysed by satan's traffic cops. "Blow into this.."

quote: Yes, too much "Jesus" impairs your judgement and makes you a danger to yourself and those around you. You may even end up in the hospital, or die from "Jesus poisining".

jar writes: To think it will only happen after death makes the whole message of Jesus life somewhat of a sad joke. it is a sad joke that people can, in the same sentence, proclaim Jesus as their personal saviour and also state that his teachings are vague or meaningless without further 'clarification', 'expansion' or 'interpretation'. I was implying that Ian's statement inadvertently carried the same surreal sense of humour typical of Monty Python.
You should really watch 'Life of Brian' if you haven't.
