supplemental pancreatic enzymes (in place of antiacids)
Buz, if these enzymes are ingested, how do they survive the digestion process, including the hydrochloric acid in the stomach?
It's my understanding that any ingested enzyme, which are proteins, are denatured (unraveled and broken apart) during digestion.
If enzymes are denatured, they cannot work as enzymes anymore.
Did you know, by the way, that one of the functions of the pancreas is to secrete bicarbonate and water into the digestive system? Thais is a base that it secretes in order to neutralize the acids present in the DS.

Re: Enzyme/proteins
Your link didn't address my question in the least, buz.
The words "denature" and "digest" did not appear in the article at all.
I am aware of the basiv biology of enzymes, which is the whole reason I asked what I did.
Enzymes are proteins, and all proteins are denatured by heat and acid. Think of milk curdling when vinegar is added.
Once the enzymes are denatured they no longer work as enzymes, so how do you know that the ones you are ingesting aren't simply being digested and broken down into amino acids?

Due to the huge market of enzyme products in the health field, imo, the FDA would be on the companies, especial naturopath ones, big time if all these products were bogus.
Again, buz, even though the laws regarding nutritional supplements has been explained to you multimple times, you apparently still harbor serious misunderstandings.
The FDA has no power whasoever to regulate bogus and worthless nutritional supplements.
The only thing the FDA can do, is if a supplement has begun to actually show a pattern of injuring people, it can issue only a strong reccommendation that the product be removed from the market.

Re: Enzyme/proteins
What you are saying makes sense, but not for the claimed use, if Buz is saying to use them insead of antacids.
