Re: Quetzal starts the New Year off right.
Thirded.(Can I say that?)
It's good to see you back in action, Quetzal.

Re: Archer Opterix on the reality of symbols
I'm honored, Jar. Truly. Many thanks.
Love the link. The sight of that landmark really takes me back.
A product we can all use after a few hours on the boards, eh?

dwise1 hits the oxymoron on the head
dwise1 defining the term 'Christian atheism' in Message 27 of the Lying for Jesus thread.
You have to wonder if the oxymoron 'Christian atheist' is the best term available, but it's no easy task to think of a better one.
At first it may appear dwise1 is talking in the abstract. But that's not the case. Real life stories exist for every example he describes, with real-life consequences. To read each category in his post is, for me, to be reminded of dozens of people and their triumphs and tragedies.
When you live in a part of the world where Christianity does not dominate, you do notice that atheism takes a different shape just as theism does. It became most obvious to me when I first logged onto EvC and found so many Western atheists defining the ideas they don't believe in along Judeo-Christian lines.
I enjoyed reading this pithy description of the phenomenon. And it's noting the unintended yet very real results that accrue when people spread bad ideas in support of a cause.
