common that replicas are converted?
I found a UK site that sell replica glock-17s that fire 9mm blanks, but in order to convert it you would basically need to make a gun, you would have to tool the barrel, get an appropriate magazine, and more importantly obtain ammunition that is only for firearms that are illegal. I guess its possible, but I wouldn't think it would be common.

Its easy to make a single shooter with the apropriate tools
Its easy to make a revolver typ pistol if you have the right tools and some know how. I dont think its too hard to convert a replica into a real thing if you have the tools and the knowhow. Probably easier if you get the parts somewhere online. Replicas already have a firring mechanism (most) and a magazine slot that works all you need to do is replace the barrel, or the safety system or both depending on the model. Most replicas just have a "welded" safety so you can technicaly never shoot it but everything else works and is identical to the real thing. But since weapons are so controlled in the UK getting the bullets would be the hardest thing http://www.bnvillage.co.uk/...uns-major-supplier-caught.html Edited by frako, : No reason given.

Its easy to make a single shooter with the apropriate tools I would not argue against that.
Its easy to make a revolver typ pistol if you have the right tools and some know how. right tools is a big one. I find it odd that the people accused of perpetrating the police action are always described as low income, uneducated thugs, yet they have the know how and access to a machine shop to create illegal weapons.
I dont think its too hard to convert a replica into a real thing if you have the tools and the knowhow. it really depends on the craftsmanship of the replica and what it is composed of. even if converted properly to fire live ammo, I doubt many could handle much more than a few shots.
Probably easier if you get the parts somewhere online. parts from real firearms.
Replicas already have a firring mechanism (most) and a magazine slot that works all you need to do is replace the barrel, or the safety system or both depending on the model. right so you need to purchase a real barrel, or machine the one you have. the firing mechanism on replicas is designed to fire blanks, though they are not always chambered to the original ammo size. for example: M 1911 IMPROVED .45 GOVERNMENT AUTOMATIC BLANK FIRNG REPLICA GUN this is a replica colt model 1911, that fires blanks, but the blanks and the chamber are for 8mm. it has a magazine, and feeds, but try putting some .45 ammo in there and see what happens.
But since weapons are so controlled in the UK getting the bullets would be the hardest thing I think the brass would be harder to get than the bullets. you can make the bullets in your garage with a mold and some extra lead. once you have the brass you can reload it

All the major shops throughout South London closed early yesterday including the big supermarkets. My son's nursery also closed early. It was quite a lockdown. By about 5:30PM things were very quiet but very tense on the streets. Police everywhere.
However didn't see any trouble despite being out and about yesterday evening. News suggests that the police presence in London kept things quiet here and that it was the rest of the country (Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, Nottingham etc.) that kicked off last night.

Stay safe man, the closest i ever came to something like this was our 10 day independence ware where the Serbs dint put even a dent in our troops and barely got past the border. Only one guy died a few where wounded the rest where captured. So not even close compared to what is happening in your country.

I am not sure of the validity of this source, but there is a new article (yesterday) from a group called the guardian. The Guardian is one of the UK's national newspapers from the respectable end of the journalism spectrum. Notably left wing, liberal. It is they that doggedly pursued the phone hacking allegations until they brought down the News of the World.
It seems as if the police were too heavy handed (as they usually are). There is, as yet, nothing to support this claim. He was armed, and police are entitled to shoot when they believe they are under immediate threat; if he made an action that looked like he was raising the gun then they were perfectly within their rights to open fire.

I doubt that the 'low income, uneducated thugs' with the guns are the ones retooling them. They'd buy the guns action-ready from whoever it is who makes money from selling illegal weapons. Note, however, that I've never really had any connection to gang or gun culture, so this is all my ignorant speculation.

I also haven't experienced anything like that either, I would not leave the house unarmed (well come to think of it I never do anyway). be careful d00d.

It seems like every other report is he did then he didn't. I guess it depends on who you talk to. the police say he did (but of course they would), and vise versa. They love shooting unarmed people, especially in the back, and then saying they were armed, they do it all the time there and here.

BBC is the main one for me, because I know its not a tabloid.

It is just weird to me because getting a gun here is so easy, and many of us here are in the gun culture (its almost un-American not to be). Police here do exactly the same thing.
