And representing the UK, a Conservative MP has some wise words about astrology.
David Tredinnick said consulting the stars would "take huge pressure off doctors" and predicts astrology will "have a role to play in healthcare." The MP for Bosworth in Leicestershire also admitted he had prepared astrological charts for fellow MPs. In an interview with this month's Astrological Journal, the controversial MP said: "There would be a huge row over resources. "However, I do believe that astrology and complementary medicine would help take the huge pressure off doctors. [...] He added that opponents to astrology were "bullies", saying: "Astrology offers self-understanding to people. "People who oppose what I say are usually bullies who have never studied astrology. "They never look at it. They are absolutely dismissive. Astrology may not be capable of passing double-blind tests but it is based on thousands of years of observation. "Hippocrates said, 'A physician without a knowledge of astrology has no right to call himself a physician,' "Astrology was until modern times part of the tradition of medicine. I think it is a great pity that so many scientists today are dismissive of right-side brain energy, such as intuition. "People such as Professor Brian Cox, who called astrology 'rubbish' have simply not studied the subject. "The BBC is quite dismissive of astrology and seeks to promote the science perspective and seems always keen to broadcast criticisms of astrology." Bizarrely, Tredinnick, 65, who is chairman of the All-Party Group for Integrated Healthcare, went on to say people who opposed astrology were "racist". He said: "The opposition (to astrology) is based on what I call the SIP formula - superstition, ignorance, and prejudice. "It tends to be based on superstition, with scientists reacting emotionally, which is always a great irony. "They are also ignorant, because they never study the subject and just say that it is all to do with what appears in the newspapers, which it is not, and they are deeply prejudiced, and racially prejudiced, which is troubling." Yeah, caffeine is right. The guy may have been making a rhetorical point. If so, never mind, we can find another Republican demonstrating actual gross scientific illiteracy in 5 ... 4 ... 3 ...

Children do die, Perry said. I’m not trying to sound callous, but (reformers) want to act as if death is an anomaly. But it’s not it’s a way of life. Someone get this guy a dictionary. The one thing death isn't is a way of life.

Does this qualify as a looney of the week? Yeah. We've had a lot of loonies this week, but he definitely makes it into the runoffs.

And a very special effort from Ben Carson, talking about why those silly evolutionists are wrong about the evolution of the eye:
Give me a break. According to their scheme, boom!, it had to occur over night, it had to be there. I instead say, if you have an intelligent creator, what he does is give his creatures the ability to adapt to the environment so he doesn’t have to start over every fifty years creating all over again. And that’s why you see the changes that occur within species, with environment and with time. Yes, instead of those godless evolutionary fables of instantaneous fiat creation, let's believe in the good old Biblical truth of gradual adaptation to the environment. ... wait. What? Ben, Ben, Ben. I know that Darwin and God both have big white beards, but you should still try not to get them mixed up.

Well, y'know, there are countries which have mandatory voting, and they haven't sunk into the sea. While I'm against the idea, I don't think it qualifies as "loony".

Was it a trial balloon? Was it to distract attention from something else? Is he a hitler? We're just asking questions.

Well, it's just a question. Like "Was it to distract attention from something else?" and "was that a terrorist fist jab?" and "why hasnt he come round to my house to show me his birth certificate in person, does he have something to hide?"

Well, this thread has turned a bit dark. On the lighter side, I give you Michael Sibley of the great state of Georgia. It seems that Mr Sibley thought that Americans aren't frightened enough of Islamic terrorists. Apparently 60% of Georgians have them confused with bunny rabbits and want to pet them or something. So, how would you raise public awareness of the threat posed by Islamic terrorists, if you were the dumbest person in the world?
That's right! You'd build a couple of pipe bombs, place them in a public park, and pretend that Islamic terrorists did it. And how would you pretend that Islamic terrorists did it? That's right, you'd leave a copy of the Koran with the bombs, because fanatical Muslims enjoy nothing so much as blowing up the Koran. How the police saw through this brilliant ruse I do not know.
TPM has the details.
Sibley said he placed the bombs in the park because he's a "patriot." He said he regretted that people weren't "paying attention to what was going on (sic) the world" and he wanted to remind people "that this type of activity could happen anywhere," according to the documents. So basically like a public service announcement, only with more bombs.

he wanted to remind people "that this type of activity could happen anywhere," Apart from anything else ... isn't that exactly how the actual terrorists want people to feel? That's why they're called terrorists. They want to induce a feeling of terror. Having people being worried about them is their modus operandi and raison d'ȇtre. And apparently Mr. Sibley wants to help. Edited by Dr Adequate, : No reason given.

So far, despite valiant efforts, she has not managed to be a big enough loony to qualify. This ends here.

I don't know why crystal healing seems stupider when the patient's a computer. It just does.
