I just had to repost this from another forum I frequent.
Evolution mis-education in full force. And some people said here that calling those damn pouches gill slits does not matter! Arggh!
Repost begins here:
Oh dear, I forgot!, I have more personal "proof" of human evolution.
Get this! On my neck, right above my sternum, I have two little holes in my neck, one on each side. They leak a mucus like fluid almost daily.
No, I am not kidding in any way shape or form! Above each opening there seems to be a "sack" or maybe a gland that produces this sticky stuff! I can run my finger along it and push the fluid out of it at will.
The medical explanation of this is as follows:
When a human fetus is growing in it's mother's womb, it seems to go through all the various stages of evolutionary growth. Single cell; multiple cell; fish; and so on.
During the "fish" stage the fetus actually has gills (although inoperative).
Well, the doc says mine never completely went away, I WAS born with them. He said that this is not an uncommon occurence, and that I was lucky that the active fluid glands have an opening, or they would have had to surgically remove the glands so as not to allow the fluid to build up inside my neck. Actually, one of my brothers also has these "things", but his are much less active than mine.
