when I look at a list of posts, for like the first twenty or less, it has a bar underneath the title.
exampleMacroevolution (sargon_the_confused) am:this is where the bar is at it is often green, sometimes red, and at avrying levels of filled. just what the heck is it? Edited by AdminOmni, : to correct spelling. Made me feel wierd. All a man's knowledge comes from his experiences

relative activity, the number of posts and frequency. Ones that are very active will be red, lots of posts over a short period. Green indicated that the frequency of posts is lower.

this has been bugging me too.
only AdminAsgara's name appears in the list of members currently logged in. since none of the others show, I assume that this is breaking the rule somehow. stupid programming--never learned to make much sense of it. All a man's knowledge comes from his experiences

okay, i screwed my question up.
of all the admin's here, only her's shows up on the list. the name's not on now, but when I posed the question, it was. the list contains the names of the non-admin profiles. So when percy is logged in, like now, his admin profile, Admin, does not show up.However, when asgara is on, well. I never see her non-admin profile logged in, but just her admin profile. hopefully that makes the question clearer. All a man's knowledge comes from his experiences

Depends on how we log in. Asgara usually logs in under her admin account, others of us log in under the regular account. But we can switch between modes when needed.

Here is a bit more detail. I have two accounts, "nwr" and "AdminNWR". These are linked, meaning that there is control information connecting them.
If I am logged on as one of these, and I edit a message, then there are a couple of buttons where I can select whether I am editing the message as "nwr" or as "AdminNWR". Thus I can post under either of those two member names, no matter how I am logged in. Most admins prefer to login as the non-admin member. The choice of which identity to use then defaults to the non-admin member, unless doing something (approving a PNT) where admin privileges are required (when it then defaults to the admin member). I occasionally login as AdminNWR. This is usually when I start firefox with a different profile, which I do for reasons not related to evcforum. If you watch closely, I'll be logged in as AdminNWR for a short time during the next 30 minutes.

okay, I see.
I knew you guys had the linked accounts, but I guess I just normally catch asgara in her admin mode, and nobody else. which is why I thought it was an anomoly of some sort.abe: noticed something too--you're logged in as a member and admin. cool. don't want to know why, I can probably guess. the anomoly is no such thing. The length of the colored bar reflects the number of messages in the last 48 hours. If a topic has not been posted to in the last 48 hours, then no color bar. The meter pegs at 50 messages; Beyond 50 messages in 48 hours results in no longer of a bar.
I believe the colors are assigned purely on the basis of the length of the bar. Short bars are green; Long bars are red; In between are other colors. I think a 50 message bar would be red if there were 50 messages spread out evenly over the 48 hours, or if the 50 messages all happened in the most recent minute. Likewise, a 10 message bar would be green if there were 10 messages spread out evenly over the 48 hours, or if the 10 messages all happened in the most recent minute. Adminnemooseus (logged in as such this time) Added by edit: Closed topics do not have an activity meter bar, even if there were messages in the last 48 hours. Edited by Adminnemooseus, : See above. noticed something too--you're logged in as a member and admin.
When I login, I check the box to keep me permanently logged in. If I shutdown my browser, I will still show as logged in on the site list, until it times me out 30 minutes after my most recent activity at the site. As to what I did here - I shutdown firefox. Then I restarted it with a different profile. I did a couple of things, mostly on a different site. Then I shutdown the browser again, and restarted it with my standard profile. I use two different profiles, because that allows two different sets of cookies (with retained information, such as login account name). On some sites it is easier to restart firefox on a different profile, than to go thru the rigmarole of logging out, then logging in with a new identity.

my browser's most likely at fault here, but . . .
my setting:light-blue = unread posts; dark-blue = read posts (with the normal time constraints) When I click on All-Topics, every single one on the first page (at least--I haven't checked the others) reads as having unread, new posts. Even after I've read up on the post, or when my post is the last. I've got the same problem in my own message list, but not ot the same extent. Those that are over two-days old do show up dark-blue. cookie problem. Make sure you always log in to the same address ( as an example). Clear cookies (option in your profile) and then all will show unread. Things should work back to normal.
