Cookies
As Admin previously explained, just about any key click at evcforum will update a cookie. But you should not see thousands of cookies accumulating unless your browser is badly broken. The new cookies are replacing previous cookies (updating them). There should only be around 7 cookies total from evcforum.

Testing qs quoting for error detection - We seem to have a bug
Deliberately doing coding errors:
[qs]Another variationYet another variation[qs] OK, in "preview", the first "quote" does not show up at all (see "peek") and the second and third are combined, and the whole is not flagged with red highlighting as containing a coding error(s).
Adminnemooseus
OK, the original raw text is not showing up in "peek". It doesn't even show up in an edit window. I'll repeat it:
[qs]Another variationYet another variation[qs] The following (using code /code formatting) is what I posted (or tried to post)just above.
[qs]Another variationYet another variation[qs]
Well damn, I can't even get it all to display when I use the code /code dBoard coding.
Percy - Try doing some variations of dBoard coding errors, including the code /code thing, and see what happens

Re: Testing qs quoting for error detection - We seem to have a bug
Wasn't sure I understood the problem you're describing, but if you were noting that the indication for dBCode errors was missing on previews, then I've fixed that.

When clicking this link
http://www.evcforum.net/cgi-bin/dm.cgi?action=msg&f=13&t=73&m=117#117
from a reference in the "All Topics" page, I received the error message
Message 117 of thread of forum Origin of Life does not exist. Please click your back button and try again.
I manually changed the link in my browser to 116 (in place of 117). And there, sure enough, was message 117, listed as "Message 117 of 116".
Rechecking the thread, I see that the original URL now works. However, there are now two messages numbered 117.
Incidently, shouldn't the error message refer to the thread rather than the forum?

Minor quirk at individual topic indexes
I was looking at http://EvC Forum: Post-Armageddon Space Program? Message List -->EvC Forum: Post-Armageddon Space Program? Message List, but it seems to be the case at all individual topic indexes.
In the "Replies" column, the message subtitle (if any), message number, and posted by member ID all appear. But in the "Reply To" column, the message subtitle (if any) and message number appear, but the "by" is followed by no member ID information.
By no means a critical omission, but it is a quirk.

Missing Link? Chiropteras post 56
Clicking directly on the all topics list reference to Chiropteras post 56 in Next Biological Hierarchies results in a post not found.
I see it when paging to it.
ABE
It worked this time ??

That's because I rewrote the post and resubmitted it.
I don't know what happened the first time. The first time I hit a keyboard command (by mistake) that seemed to have the same effect as hitting the preview button. Then when I submitted it for real, my browser seemed to have hung up. I finally hit "stop", and then when I went to check "All Topics" (to see if it was submitted), I found the same problem as you.
I then cleared cookies, cache, history, and everything (in case that was the problem), but it wasn't. Having cleared my history, I had to retype the message again and resubmit it, and it worked.
A bug? Or just some random, unexplained hic-up due to supernatural forces?
Added by edit:
Ha ha ha. "Missing link." Now I get it.
Edited by Chiroptera, : No reason given.

Login/Logout
I've recently notice something. When I first come to EvC, I have a logout button instead of the login button, even though I have not yet logged in. If I press the logout button, it claims to have logged me out, and I get the usual login button again, and the login button remains everytime I return to EvC until I finally exit Firefox.
Then, after exiting Firefox and running Firefox again, I get the logout button again. Since I have my browser set to delete cookies when I exit, I suspect that this is a cookie problem.
No big deal; just one extra mouse click if I want to login without responding to a message. But this may be of interest to someone.

Re: Login/Logout
Yes, login that continues to the next session depends on cookies. If you delete those, you will need to login for each browser session.
Maybe your browser cookie controls allows exception for a site. If so, you could try allowing it to keep evcforum cookies. It isn't just the login that you lose. You also lose the record of which threads you have fully read (as show by the blue indicator).

Yes, I've seen this, too. I intend to clean this up at the earliest opportunity, but there's no schedule at present.

Rules discrepancy
This was discoved by CK and jazzns in Message 79 and following. I am reporting it here so it does not get lost.
There is a discrepancy between the rules as linked to from forum pages and the rules linked from the main page. In particular, the numbering is inconsistent.

Missing topic
riVeRraT's java calculator topic shows up in the various indexes (including here), but the topic page itself does not seem to exist.
A pretty minor and disposable topic, but a bug none the less.

Broken images in the FAQ
The images (smilies, the suspended icon) in the FAQ are showing up as broken.
