I turned on email notification as a test.
Since turning it on, I have received one email notification. That message came from IP=72.4.161.195, and that IP definitely does not resolve. If you contact by email I can help you with sendmail configuration. If it is easier, use my Admin email address since I made that public. Or if you can get me ssh access to your server (no special privileges needed) that would make it easier to examine the system network configuration and then test a sendmail configuration. You could then install the recommended new configuration.

Why would I have to change a thing? I have been getting emails from evc for the complete time I have been here. I have not changed any settings.
Maybe my isp thinks is spam?I will contact them, thanks for the help.

My isp has an anti spam service, It probably is cittung off the emails, because certain people here like to respond to my posts like 5 times, so I get a 1000 notifications in my inbox.
Ok, may be not a 1000, but at least 500, lolI disabled it for now, until I can resolve the issure with them, lets see if it works. |

My post was a reply to Admin, offering to help him adjust the evcforum mail server configuration. Sorry that it confused you.

One thing at a time, just getting around to this...
72.4.161.195 is the IP of the server. When I first switched over to the current server I shared this IP address. I later switched the site over to a dedicated IP, 207.36.231.74. It looks like the email didn't follow along. You already have ssh access to the server. Your username is adminnwr@, I don't know your password, of course. If you don't know your password I can reset it.

Thanks. The ssh access works.
It looks like the email didn't follow along.
The kernel makes up its own mind what IP address to assign. The "read the administrators mind" instruction hasn't been properly implemented in this kernel version. Fortunately, sendmail can be configured to force a particular IP. I'll look at the changes needed (probably minor), and then let you know what they are.

Be forewarned that the control panel for the server sets up a fairy tale world of accounts and directory trees. The admin account for is revealed to actually be, after logging in to the server as root, admin3.

That's not a problem. If "/etc/mail/sendmail.mc" and "/etc/mail/sendmail.cf" are honest, that's mostly what I need to look at

If you look in the directory /home/adminnwr/sendmail on the server, you should find a file README. It explains what to do to fix the sendmail problem.
I did test this as best possible without privileges. It appears to do what is needed. There should not be any bad side effects. Note: the directory listed is as visible to me. Note on testing: I sent an email message to my email address on another system, and checked the sending IP address. There are probably some AUTH-WARNING messages in your logs as a result of my testing.

Is any of this affect my recieving email notification?
I removed the spam away, and I am still not getting emails from EVC. I get email from everyone else though. This message has been edited by riVeRraT, 12-01-2005 05:43 PM

We are waiting for Admin to decide whether to try my suggested configuration change. I recommend that you edit your message (the one to which I am replying) and remove your email address. Spammers search web pages to harvest email addresses. It's not a good idea to make it too easy for them. I just sent you two test email messages, one using the current configuration and one using my recommended alternative configuration. The first test failed. The second appeared to go through.

I somehow missed nwr's 11/24 post - I'll check out the README he left me at the next opportunity, probably this weekend. Your notifications are still bouncing back, just please be patient and I'll do my best to fix it.
