Hey everybody... Cyber Prince here. I am brand new to these forums, but definitely like what I have seen so far! Anyway, I thought I would make a new topic about the Bible and why it really doesn't make any sense to me whatsoever. However, I should state that I do believe in " God ", but I am torn between two religions - Islam and Hinduism. I guess I will start off by saying that I was raised as a Christian, but, later on in life, I started questioning if there really was a " God ", and it led me to become an Atheist. But, after going through many strange experiences in my life, I have turned back to " God " and am researching both the Holy Quran and the Bhagavad Gita ( Hinduism ).
Okay... so why the Bible really doesn't make sense to me. I guess I will start off with the whole " Six Day Creation " thing. First off, I don't understand why it would take some " Omnipotent " being " Six Days " to create something. I mean, seriously, you would think that this Supreme Being had it all planned out beforehand or something, so why six days ? Honestly, I think the Universe was created instantly really... not six days. And I do believe that the Universe was started by a Big Bang or something similar to that, as it is expanding, that's obvious. So, given the fact that it is expanding, that must lead one to believe that at one time the Universe was much much smaller. Maybe God just started it out small and threw it into this expansion or made it appear as if it was super small at one time but maybe really wasn't.
Anyway, back on track now. After the whole Six Day Creation thing - it says that on the Seventh Day " God rested " - another thing that seems totally illogical to me. Why would some Omnipotent being have to " rest " ? I mean, if he has the power to not only create Human Beings, but the Universe as well, why in the world would he have to rest after doing this ? This is also refuted in the Holy Quran.
Another problem of mine is that according to the Bible, the Earth is only about 6,000 years old ? Again, doesn't make sense. Obviously that can't be true. Just look at the History of mankind and the timeline involved. And plus you have to add in Dinosaurs and all that as well. This is definitely one of my biggest pains with the Bible... but there are more.
And why would God need a Son ? Prophets, maybe... but a son ? No. This is also refuted in the Holy Quran. In the Holy Quran it teaches that Jesus was a mortal and he knew this. As a man, he drank water, ate food and slept like the rest of us mortals. So if he really was the Son of God, why was he so " normal/mortal " like the rest of us ?
And, above all, my number one problem with the Bible is the fact that is says only 144,000 people are going to " Heaven " ? That can't possibly be true. Think of it this way - out of the billions of humans who have already lived, the billions that are living now, and the billions of humans to come in the future - only 144,000 of them are going to " Heaven " ? Maybe I am getting this wrong, but that is what I have read and been told by some Jehovah Witnesses who have came knocking on my door on a Saturday Morning. Not only can this not be true but it doesn't seem fair to the rest of mankind. Where do all these billions and billions of other people go ? And please don't tell me it's " Paradise on Earth " like the Jehovah Witnesses tell me. Because if that was the case, there simply wouldn't be enough room on Planet Earth for all the billions and billions and billions of people who made it there.
Well, that is all I really have for now. I am not really trying to start some huge argument here, just pointing out some things that just don't make sense to me. Maybe some Christian can help me out or explain these things to me.
But, in my opinion, if you are interested in God or religion, turn to Islam or Hinduism. Both are way deeper than Christianity by a long shot. I'm sure you know that the God of Islam is " Allah " but if you didn't know - the Absolute Godhead of Hinduism is " Brahman " - I suggest going to wikipedia and typing in Brahman just to read up on it some.
And, honestly, if you like Evolution and believe in it, Hinduism goes right along with it. In Hinduism it teaches us that all Human beings at one time started off as lower forms of life. Then, gradually over time, our consciousness " graduated " into Human form. It is a very deep religion, and a part of me does believe in Evolution but at the same time I believe that some Intelligent Designer started it all. And what better way could you possibly hide your existence than to make it all seem like it just happened on its own ? That is so Brahman!
So, anyway, that is all I have. Maybe someone can come here and give me answers to my problems with the Bible. And perhaps some day I can post more things that I have learned out of the Bhagavad Gita, which was Gandhi's favorite spiritual book.
