Re: Right and wrong
Until we reach the age of Crit-thinking, we are creatures of our upbringing--parental, extended family and friends, the society we live in, accumulated experiences. When you decide to reassess the strictures/beliefs/maxims you have used up till then, you should attempt Crit-think (which occurs at various ages from late teenhood (if you`re lucky) right through to your death-bed (if you ain`t),to determine for yourself whether you have been goosed or not.
The we/you used above are the generic or royal examples.

Re: Right and wrong
Hi, Annie, the we/you is used in a general sense.
Royalty (the Queen of England, etc.) always uses the monarchic 'we'.
It was a joke (sigh).

Re: Right and wrong
You stay there, ok? That is exactly what I am talking about. You are saying humans like being selfish, and we DO. We absolutely love it. But some of us choose to ignore our petty little fallen 'nature' and do something better than human. Tell me again that we don't hate selfishness, and then see if that applies to your own selfishnss or the selfishness of others. Of course we like our own, we are selfish remember? But we HATE other people's, and thus we know that we want something more than NATURAL.
I suppose you could say the epitome of being selfish is to use altruism to ensure one own`s salvation.

Re: Right and wrong
And how more praise-worthy would you find a person who practises altruism for no reward other than the reasoning that it is in the best interests of the human race. No salvation. No worrying about whether one has racked up enough brownie points to please the Big Guy. No fear of going to hell. Just the expectation that one`s example might be contagious. Or not.
