It's not hard to figure out, as suggested above. Male lions who happen to have the habit of killing cubs of other males upon taking over a pride, tend to leave more offspring. Those who do not, leave fewer offspring. This is sufficient, over a number of generations, to make the practice commonplace. [This message has been edited by The Barbarian, 02-11-2002]
