does admin/percy have any insight as to what's going on?
for that matter, does anyone have any insight?

Re: Jar?
Hard telling, Max. Maybe the guys are just in need of a break. They will probably be back within a week, I would imagine. Then again, maybe its a calculated move to get some of us newer administrators to do more work!

Re: Jar?
I hope this is just for the holidays or something. It does seem odd though that they'd be suspended (or suspend themselves) rather than simply not posting.
I will particularly miss Omni, but as I have already mentioned I enjoyed Ned and while I may have a sort of clunky relationship with Jar I'd rather not seem him gone.

Re: Jar and Omni
Omni and Jar have both chosen to absent themselves from the board as a result of discussions in the Private administrator's forum.

That's unfortunate. At least it is voluntary on their part? (I'm still smarting over Faith's banning.)

Surely we deserve an explanation?
I would think that as contributers to EvC forum, and some of us have donated a great deal of time and effort into making it a very successful board, we deserve to know what has happened to Jar and Omni.
Jar is not someone who is easily offended or upset by anything so I can only assume it must be something very serious for him to hang up his boots. It will take about four people to fill Jar's position as he was the most active mod here.
Surely the general population should be informed of the reason(s) behind these events as it may affect whether or not we want to be associated with the board.
Noticed that AdminOmni's reason for suspension is 'by invitation', I can only assume that he was invited to step down.
Omni is equally as laid back as jar, can't see him getting worked up about nothing.
So, what about an explanation Percy?
Brian.

I hope Jar and Omnivorous return at one point... I know that posting here isn't their job or duty, or that they are obliged to post and post and post for my own diversion. But it makes me quite sad that they'd just decide to longer contribute their thoughts to this board, because I read them nearly every day...

Re: Surely we deserve an explanation?
Percy does not owe anyone an explanation as to the decision of his administrators to step down. Being an administrator is a voluntary job, and the decision to accept the job and/or quit it is that of the administrator alone.
It is true that Jar did at least 4 times the work of the rest of us. He is (was) the most consistant poster that EvC has ever had. His folk wisdom and his fathering guidance for new members and new administrators was instrumental in building EvC Forum up to the standards that it now shows. This is one of the best forums on the internet in terms of our relationships with each other as a virtual family, and we DO care about one another as you do know, Brian.
Being human, we all occasionally disagree with one another, and feel the need to demand respect from each other as well.
This is Percys site and Percy is the Boss. I dont know the particulars of why Omni and Jar chose to step away from the building, and I dont really feel Percy owes anyone an explanation either. Quite simply, this is Percys ship and not Jars nor anyone elses.
I expect that you may see Jar return sooner rather than later, and in case he is reading this I want to acknowledge him publically as a well loved and important contributor to these forums.

Sure. And if Percy wants to sail his ship alone with the few people who share his vision of where the ship is going, that's fine to.
Brian, I think, was suggesting that if Percy is interested in maintaining an interesting diversity among the participants here then he might want to alleviate the concerns generated by what may be the beginnings of an implosion.

Kings were put to death long before 21 January 1793. But regicides of earlier times and their followers were interested in attacking the person, not the principle, of the king. They wanted another king, and that was all. It never occurred to them that the throne could remain empty forever. -- Albert Camus

I think he does.
If there has been a conflict of visions, then the rest of us need to know what vision has prevailed. Quite frankly, if Nosy's and Omni's and jar's vision is no longer welcome here, then neither is mine.

Re: Surely we deserve an explanation?
If Jar and Omni freely chose to leave the whole issue of explanation should be up to them. They should neither be prevented from explaining nor coerced into explaining against their will.
While I would hope for an explanation, it is their decision.

Re: Surely we deserve an explanation?
What about your vision, Ringo? You are also a valuable contributor to EvC and your wisdom, humor, and wry insights are quite well appreciated by me.
All that I meant about Percy is that I don't think he forced anyone into leaving. I almost think that this all is a setup to make the rest of the administrators work harder. I think that our vision as a discussion board remains unchanged. Now if anyone can keep me from slipping into nonsense mode, I would appreciate it!
Also....This is not a rift in EvC loyalties, Ringo. We are all the same as we always were.
Oh and by the way...they are all welcome to return at any time. They were not suspended, either.

The Thanksgiving Day Massacre
What other name can we give it?
Jar and Omni suspended themselves in protest of my post in the private admin forum that attempted to define debate, since this is a debate site. I changed the suspensions to inactive with the AdminJar and AdminOmni accounts changed to member level status.
While I did firmly state my position in that message, I thought it was just part of the discussion whose goal was to work toward a resolution. So that members may form their own opinions and since it seemed to be the precipitous message I'll post the contents here in this thread, but keep in mind that it was just the tail end of a much longer discussion.
Jar was a good friend and an invaluable contributor to EvC Forum, both as member and administrator. He will be sorely missed in many ways. He is naturally welcome to return at any time.
Omni I knew barely at all, and that is probably almost all my fault. With my current work load it has been increasingly difficult to build and maintain relationships with the newer members and admins, but my sense is that his contributions were also valuable, and that he, too, will be missed. He, too, is, of course, welcome to return at any time.
I have no idea what happened to NosyNed. That happened a week or two ago, and he left no indication of any reason. I have no idea if it is related or coincidental.
As many long term members know, it has long been my goal to achieve balanced treatment of the creation/evolution debate by having qualified moderators from both sides. Nonetheless, the board has always been dominated, in both the moderator and member categories, by evolutionists.
One thing we try to do here at EvC Forum is be patient with those unfamiliar with science. Those who are willing to get into a back and forth discussion usually fare very well. Those who dig in their heels and in one way or another just refuse to discuss constructively gradually get less and less moderator support. But we recognize some of the difficulties, for instance the piling on that can often occur, and we do try to deal proactively with these situations.
But generally speaking, balance and fairness require treating evolutionist and creationist equally, so I confess that I am still very surprised that all hell broke loose when I aggressively challenged a lengthy series of errors posted by someone from the science side. Even creationist Buzsaw objected.
Anyway, I'll post the content of the post that prompted the resignations, but keep in mind that it was probably more the final straw rather than the actual reason itself. Jar and Omni didn't respond to anything I said, they just resigned. For more information I suggest you seek out Jar and Omni. Jar can be reached at AdminJar@, if he decides to continue checking that email (I can't provide his non-public email address), while Omni can be reached at oneworldart@sbcglobal.net.
