and I live in America in a time when it has wandered far from its Christian heritage, What "Christian heritige"? The U.S. has no 'Christian heritige". Thomas Jefferson himself said that the U.S. is in no way founded on Christianity. Ia! Cthulhu fhtagn! Proudly attempting to Google-Bomb Kent "The Idiot" Hovind's website

quote: But that's just it...the vast majority of atheists actually did seek. However, they didn't find. Now, if you are this all-knowing, all-seeing, all-powerful being and you know that I am looking for you and you know that the only way I will be able to comprehend your message is if you present it on my terms, why is it somehow not your fault for failing to do so? Especially if you claim to be all-loving and pure compassion? You know how to do it, you are perfectly capable of doing it, and yet you don't. And this is somehow my fault as the imperfect, struggling one when the perfect, guiding one refuses to help? There are three major learning styles: Visual, verbal, and kinetic. The vast majority of people are primarily visual learners. Some, however, learn best when the concept is put in words, not pictures. And some people need to "feel" it. This is most obviously seen in dancing. Talk to professional dancers about what they're thinking as they go through the choreography and you'll get the same three answers: 1) Counting (1, 2, and-3, and-4)2) Steps (Stomp, hop, fl-ap, fl-ap) 3) Grunts (Bam! and a-doop a-doop) If you're trying to teach somebody how to do a time step and you know they're a counter, why insist that they have to learn through grunting? A priest and a rabbi are in a car when they have a serious accident, but they come out without a scratch. The priest crosses himself, praising the lord for sparing him. He notices the rabbi cross himself, too, and says, "Ah! Have you finally seen the light?" "Oh, no," replies the rabbit. "I'm just checking to make sure I have everything: Spectacles, testicles, wallet, and watch." Rrhain WWJD? JWRTFM!

I'm not a mind or heart reader, all I know is that if you truly, with no buts attached, seek Him, He will show himself to you, but this brings up that awful faith word that no skeptic likes to hear.
How about this, lets suppose that you are right that there is no God. What then? Only in this crazy mixed up country would people actually think there is no God. even in third world countries they at least understanding a spiritual demension. (b.t.w. I love America, so don't get any ideas) This message has been edited by steve, 06-22-2004 11:01 PM

quote: I never said there wasn't. Do not confuse my comprehension of the atheist position with my acceptance of it.
quote: We keep on doing what we're doing. Surely you aren't arguing that atheists are incapable of determining right from wrong, are you? That atheists have no such thing as morality and would kill you as soon as kiss you?
quote: What does this prove? It would seem, if you are truly arguing this, that the way to advance as a society is to abandon superstition, give up on god, and recognize that the only thing out there is you. You get only one chance in this world, no eternal reward, no eternal punishment, only your fellow man to accompany you during your limited journey, so you had better start shaping up and flying right because there are going to be a lot of pissed people staring at you if you keep behaving like a jerk. I fail to see how one needs a god in order to understand how to be nice.
quote: Not if you want your religious tradition installed as the defining concept of our legal system. The American tradition is the separation of church and state. Honestly, I used to think the same way you do, but once I began to believe, I could look back in my life and see God's hand.
I could see all the times that He moved and worked for my benefit. "I was once blind, but now I see" But it took me believing first, before that I thought God wasn't for me.

One day, an atheist is driving on a highway. As he is driving along he sees a pastor, a priest, and a rabbi holding up a sign that says "The end is near! Turn back now before it's too late!" The atheist is annoyed by this so, as he drives by them, he yells out, "get the fuck out of my life you idiots!" then continue on his merry way. 10 seconds later, he is dead.
Another atheist comes along and he sees the 3 men holding up the sign. He, too, is annoyed that there are all these religious people keep trying to interupt his life. As he drives by them, he yells out, "Fuck your god!" 10 seconds later, he is dead, too. The rabbi turns to the other 2 and said, "um... perhaps we should make it more clear that the incoming bridge is out." The Laminator

Jesus dies and goes up to Heaven. The first thing he does is look for his father, as he has never met the man before and is curious as to what he looks like, and whether or not Jesus looks like his mother or father, etc. He looks high and low but cannot find him.
He asks St. Peter "Where is my father?" But St. Peter says he doesn't know. He asks the archangel Gabriel "Where is my father?" But Gabriel doesn't know. He asks John the Baptist "Where is my father?" But John does not know. So he wanders Heaven, impatiently searching. Suddenly he sees out of the mist an old man coming toward him. The man is very old, with white hair, stooped over a little. "Stop!" Jesus yells. "Who are you?" "Oh, please help me, I am an old man in search of my son." Jesus is very curious. Could this be his father? "Tell me of your son, old man." "Oh, you would know him if you saw him. Holes in his hand where the nails used to be, he was nailed to a cross, you know..." "Father!!!!!" Screams Jesus. "Pinocchio!!!!!!!" yells the old man. Aslan is not a Tame Lion

quote: I think you hit the nail on the head with that post Rrhain (from the atheist point of view at least). Too many christians don't realise that they aren't really finding God they're just making him up and not really knowing, claiming he "directed their life" etc. etc. I know because that's exactly what I did as a christian, and I realized that God isn't doing anything, my imagination that I unconsciously labeled "God" was doing the "directing". However, when you tell a christian this they tell you that you never really had true faith to begin with anyway. Which leads me to believe they are the ones who are actually lying to themselves and they are also the hard-headed ones. "True faith" being the catalyst... (which is funny because I knew that all along before I was "born again" but I ignored it.) Not to say that believing in God is a bad thing, if it makes your life better then go for it. But, I don't like being lied to and I assume others don't as well, so that is the only reason I want to continue justifying my arguement that he doesn't exist. Also, I don't like to feel guilty and depressed for living doing the things that make me happy!

Two nuns were taking a stroll through the park at dusk when two men jumped them, ripped off their habits and proceeded to rape them. Sister Gregory, bruised and battered, looked up at the sky and said softly "Forgive him, Lord, for he knows not what he does." Sister Theresa looked over at her and said "Mine does."

God is talking to one of his angels.
He says, "Boy, I just created a 24-hour period of alternating light and darkness on Earth." The angel says, "What are you going to do now?" God says, "Call it a day." Aslan is not a Tame Lion |
