Author | Topic: The Divine Proportion: Does It Have a Materialistic Explaination? | |||||||||||||||||||||||

You mean to tell me the human body wouldn't operate if the length of......uh.......whatever it was divided by whatever it was (it's late, brain no work good) was 1.619 instead of 1.618? I don't recall saying that. The thing about your human proportion argument is that humans aren't actualy proportioned that way. To the Greeks, that was the perfect ideal of human proportion; the only people proportioned like that are Greek statues.

Are you saying that the length of the human body from the navel to the toes divided by whatever it was (or vice versa) doesn't equal Phi?

I'm pretty sure he is. (btw, remember the bees) It sure ain't all humans with my 2 brothers and I as examples. We are all very differently proportioned. (only one of us is 'golden' ). So what is the claim. All humans, some humans, the average human, males or females?

The circumference of the rings on a tree divided by the one before it = 1.618.
Go find a tree stump to sit on while you think about this one for a few minutes. A thought experiment alone is enough to disprove this....

I just performed an experiment to test your theory.I took a tape measure and measured. Head to toe 171.2 cm;navel to toe 101.5cmHip to toe 102.8 cm Knee to toe 51 cm. Shoulder to figertips 75.4 c. Elbow to figertips 45.8 This results in the following ratios. 171.2/101.5 equals 1.6102.8/51 equals 2.0. 75.4/45.8 equals 1.6 You may draw your own conclusions from these data.

Yes, I'm saying that it doesn't, except in possibly a few individuals and in Greek statues. It certainly doesn't in me. My legs are much longer in proportion than other people's. Coragyps the person, as opposed to a vulture:
height/navel = 1.63 arm/cubit = 1.53 measured by my wife, the expert seamstress, too.

quote: I know. I believe I have the only one in existence, though, so you don't have to worry about it too much. It's quite powerful (should actually have a casting cost), but it is quite dangerous. Unless you have a way to store all that mana, it'll kill you from mana burn. It's great for a combination of Fibonacci Series, Capacitor (which will store it), and Diffraction Grating (which will turn it into a specific color). Rrhain WWJD? JWRTFM!

So... thus far we've established that half the things you say come to phi, don't. And of those that do, they actually approximate to phi to a greater or lesser degree (random variation is that a property of natural or designed systems?). Plus we've had explanations as to why natural forces can produce these approximations.
Is there anything left to discuss?

I think this could be some corruption of another phenomenon associated with the Fibonacci sequence. Since male honeybees develop from unfertilised eggs they have only one parent, the queen bee, and females have 2. The number of ancestors going back through the generations for a drone therefore goes 1,2,3,5,8,13... and for a worker/queen 2,3,5,8,13...

The most common number is 1!
It can be found everywhere in the universe. 1 universe, 1 solar system, 1 earth, 1 sun, 1 me, 1 you, 1 him, 1 her, 1 dog, 1 cat. Heck walk down the streat and see how many 1 things you can find! It's absolutely mind bogling.

I'd like to see proof that those claims aren't true. It sure ain't all humans with my 2 brothers and I as examples. We are all very differently proportioned. (only one of us is 'golden' ).>> Like I said, I need more proof than that.

Jason, are you passive-aggressive? You tend to write a little more intelligently than the normal person around here that has trouble following admin edict.
You have been asked by more than me to please utilize the quote features on the board. It is difficult enough to communicate effectively on written board, don't make it more difficult by refusing to use features meant to make communication easier. If you insist on ignoring me and my request, you will be suspended. The next post of yours I see where you refuse to listen will be your last.
